Why niche content is hard to find.

We are always being asked for "NICHE" content.

My webmaster has built me a program to review sales in every catagory and niche. The results were interesting.

I accept we will do better at niches we specialise in, but these niches we shoot for magazines.

TEENS
Solo Girl = Excellent
Girl/Girl = Fine
Boy/Girl = Very Excellent

TEEN SHAVERS
Solo Girl = Suck
Girl/Girl = Suck

AMATEUR
Solo Girl = Poor
Girl/Girl = Fine
Boy/Girl = Very Excellent

INTER-RACIAL
Boy/Girl = Fair

BIG TITS
Solo Girl = Fine
Girl/Girl = Fine
Boy/Girl = Very Excellent

GLAMOUR
Solo Girl = Fine

MATURE
Solo Girl = Suck

ASIAN
Solo Girl = Suck

FETISH
All sales = Suck

GUYS
Solo Boy = Suck

EBONY
Solo Girl = Suck
Boy/Girl = Suck

VIDEOS
Only got 38 videos so not enough to tell, some do very well some do not.

The problem is, I think, there is not a a lot of the "Fetish" and less popular niche catagory sites around. So the sets sell a lot less times. The popular catagories sell well because there are a lot of site out there for them.

Just thought you might find this interesting before you run off and start up a Fetish site.

Fetish is mostly done by people who are into that fetish. Those people shoot their own content because they actually know exactly what is needed for that particular kink. So it's clear that mainstream goes best but I would say that you would be able to sell fetish content for as higher price.

What I still don't understand is why "porn for women" seems to be a niche...

Works for me, I'm trying to fill that niche... do any of you target women visitors? If so, how? And, are you getting any results?

I would agree with you for the small niche sites. A guy putting up a fetish because he loves it is always going to have a better understanding of it than someone doing it for the money.

But what about the shavings sets, we shot shaving sets for 10 years and we do them well. There are "Shaving" magazines that are 50% our content. Yet it does not sell on the net. Hairy does not sell on the net but flies out in mags.

A lot of the fetish sites think they should pay the same for a fetish set as we charge for a teen set.

We have solo guy material, this sells to magazines for $1,000 a set. On the net 2-3 sales. Why? Not enough sites aimed at women, probably because woman close their eyes to masturbate. Thankfully men need to open them.

All I know is that approx 20-30% of my mailing list (yes double optin) are female, that figure really surprised me. I should have had an option so they could be on there own list so could target marketing better.

Obscure content won't sell as many sets, but it is worth more money.

Could it not be that you sell more mainstream stuff, like teen, because you're known for it? People come to you looking for the stuff that sold well, so of course it sold better.

Ian's right I think. The people who are coming to you are probably 80% webmasters looking for teen content. That's how you market yourself. If you have gay sets you have to advertise to those webmasters and if you've only got a small selection of gay content they're not going to make your store on of their first stops. You can't be all things to all people, that's what brokers do. Better to be known for and good at a few related niches than trying to be a content supermarket. Unless you have a ton of content spread out among many niches.

I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

One of our fetish sites now has more than 10,000 members billing at $29.95 a month (no affiliates) and we produce all of our own content. Would we let other people shoot for this site? Not in a million years. Its horses for courses and unless you understand it you just cant shoot it.

Yes it seems we have branded ourselves as teens and amateur "specialists" which is not so bad. we can live off those sales, just about .

But just thought it was interesting in the light of all the posts for niche and fetish material.

But I think SGS came up with the best post. Any one with any knowledge and ability to shoot a specailist should be doing it for their own sites.

My personal pet peeve is photographers who refuse to do their research. They crank out half assed scenes and while they may be technically perfect from a photography point of view, they suck from a fetish perspective.
Despite the fact that I cant stand taking pictures, I have had to produce 90% of my content in house. This is because there is very little convincing fetish content out there available for sale.
Spend a few hours (at least!) looking into what the end user wants to see, and you will notice a remarkable increase in your sales.
