Just checked my stats and man they are way down - guess people are watching the news and shit huh!

So what happens next - do people get sick of hearing about war and start buying porn like crazy or do we only start making money again once the fucking war is over and done with?

Guess you old timers would know about this from the first guld war.

I just want to make money - I don't give a fuck about war.

Will you guys get on with the killing so the rest of us can go on with our lifes! Damn, some people are trying to earn some extra money around here!

mosaic was the first graphical browser and it was only released in 93.

AOL used to be a glorified graphical bbs. As I'm sure you know AOL stands for America Online. Thus bbs's are online.

The original merely mentioned how biz was during the first gulf war. It didn't say internet biz. There weren't paysites in 1993, largely because there wasn't convienent means for accepting payment.

BBS's on the other hand flourished. There were numerous adult bbs and thanks to the wonders of 900 numbers were that era's equivalent to paysites. I had to paint my parents house one summer to pay off a large phone bill I rang up to one of those.

man, I used to run a WWIV BBS in 1991... we had porn newsgroups with GIF and TIF files for downloading pics that took FOREVER on a 2400 baud modem.

but you people are forgetting the first online porn service, to my recollection:

Rusty & Edie's BBS.

I think they ultimately got busted for some child porn type thing, but they had a pay service that dealt in online erotica before anyone else did. A few phone lines, and you dialed in to download stories and photos.

but the adult biz still did well during that time... VHS was huge and gonzo video was all the rage...

ahh, to be 15 again.

You're using faulty logic. But if you want to consider going on a BBS as being online, sure, go for it. But it doesn't hold true by today's definition.

I met my old man 'online', on one of the earliest adult BBS sites... Back then, we had to xerox our ID, and mail in that with payment in order to use the BBS. They called and voice verified who you were and if there was soemthing odd, then you weren't allowed to have access until they had a monthly get together which you had to attend to prove yourself.

Rusty & Edies did (at least to start with) have their BBS connected to the net. I think you had to use one of the old formats (gopher...archie? or something) to access it. Several of the large adult BBS sites did, but then found it easier to just blend in with a domain.

We ALL called BBS's "online" simply using the most base definition... IE: You had to connect to a phone lone to access the BBS. And most all were text based. H,,, I think it was when they came out with RIP graphics before we actually "saw" anything akin to pics. Our local BBS's had grainy scans made from handhelds and alot of stories. lol There were 4 or 5 adult BBS's in Central Ohio. All paysites per se`.
