Emails for sale

A friend of mine runs a main stream portal and has of about a 100k valid emails. He is tight on cash and thinking about selling the list.

Trying to help him figure out what he should charge. The numbers I have seen are anywhere from $2 to $1 per valid email. Is this the case for lists?

No, those are confirmed that they want that website sending them emails. Spamming Porn to that list of your friends will cause a lot of complaints i would think.

think closer to $.01 per email.... and that's even far off.

I am not one into spamming or email lists, but one thing I can say is if you have the origional users IP, and site they signed up to and that they agreed to recieve emails from others, it is worth a bit. Otherwise ppl sell lists of 1 - 20million email addies for $19.95 - 30.00

Then I have been seriously mislead... i asked a guy i know who "works all day with mailers" he is the one who gave me the info. Again, I thought it was high, that is why i asked

Depends, if its double opt in and has been scrubbed thoroughly. I still wouldn't touch it cuz I don't know what kind of traffic it is...ie., what niche would work best for it.

If you have the patience, collect your own emails using mojo mail, its a free script.

100k opt ins could be worth a couple hundred bucks if you have all the info including ip. $1 per e-mail is completly unrealistic for any list, even fresh paysite members. Hit me up on icq and I'll take them off your hands at a fair price.

In the magazine/mail order industries, names sell for around 10 cents each, on average. So 100K valid names/addresses would cost $10K.

I'm not familiar with email rates (newbie) but I'd think they would cost much less because of duplicity - I have 8 email addresses of my own.

Don't listen to him. For one thing, you said "mainstream" which changes the value a lot. $1/address might be high but 1 cent is ridiculously low. Just do a little research on what similar lists go for.

Frankly, I'd be very careful with this list if I were you.

You said he has a mainstream site - I'd be surprised if the people who provided their addresses want to receive porn.

How are the names collected? Are they single optin or double optin? What did they sign up for? Does he have a privacy policy? If so, would selling the names be in breach of his policy?

Does he know how old the people are? If he doesn't then you could end up sending porn to minors, which would really get you in deep shit.

Just a few things to think about.
