Save your 2 cents, webhosts sell hosting, plain and simple, they are not selling anything to do with adult tangible products, goods, or services. That's like saying paypal won't process for a site that sells Blank cd's or dvd's or vhs tapes, because the buyer "May" use them to put Adult content on.

So what about designers? They often use nude pics in the designs they sell...

Dear --------------,

Your request to withdraw funds via electronic funds transfer from your
PayPal account to your bank account ending in nnnn, has been
received and is in process.

This process usually takes 3-4 business days to complete but is dependent
on your bank's policies. If there is a problem with your request, it may
take up to one week for your bank to notify us. We will notify you
immediately by email if we learn of any problems in processing your request.

Thanks for using PayPal, the world's #1 online payment service!

--------------------------------------------------------------

You are right there. Given PayPal's past policy, they will likely steal your whole account if you wait past the grace period.

I just withdrew a large balance from PayPal, I bet they are getting quite a run this morning, he he he.

Like most webmasters I never received the letter. I only sell dvds using PayPal. My guess is if you don't use the membership script you won't be noticed, even if you have a large number of transactions as I do.

But they will find you sooner or later, bail out now.

Call Kevin at Ibill today.

Have they clarified whether they don't want adult-related business at all (B2b, etc.) or if they are just talking about processing for adult sites? I can't believe they would discriminate on that level...

If everyone got the same mail as me this morning it really couldnt have been made any clearer:

PayPal will no longer support transactions for adult content or products

Surely by now everyone knows how quick PayPal freezes accounts for months on end?

well, i never got the email so maybe it isn't as clear as you think. I am not trying to split hairs and read into the policy change what I want or hope it excludes, but why wouldn't I get the email then?

Does anybody remember me asking the PayPal rep at the Phoenix Forum last year if they were really into the adult industry for the long haul or were they just making a splash and when they found out what we really do would they be out in a year?

That was my partner, Dr. Clay Andrews, who asked their rep at the Phoenix Forum.

reading their new policy, it seems clear content providers are in the line of fire:

Mature Audiences Policy

Unless you are completing a transaction on the eBay Mature Audiences site, you may not use PayPal to sell or purchase "adult" or "sexually oriented" material.

How does PayPal define "adult" or "sexually oriented" material?
"Adult" or "sexually-oriented" material includes, but is not limited to:
Any visual representation of human genitals presented in such a manner as to suggest sexual activity.

Any visual representation of any form of sexual intercourse involving humans

Any materials which require that individuals be eighteen (18) or older (depending on the jurisdiction) to view or purchase those materials

Any non-textual materials clearly designed to sexually arouse the viewer/reader

Any items which, because of their nature or because of the item description, appear to be designed for use in sexual/adult activity

Any items which dhahahahat human sexual characteristics in a degrading fashion

Any item that portrays frontal nudity will normally be treated as "adult" material
What is not considered "adult" or "sexually oriented" material?
Material that is not considered "adult" or "sexually oriented" includes but is not limited to:
That which is a small and insignificant part of a catalog, book, periodical, or other work which is not, as a whole, primarily devoted to sexual matters

Books or other text without pictures, as long as the material is not obscene, even if designed to sexually arouse the reader

Pieces of artwork that may be considered fine art-such as certain paintings, carvings, figurines and other similar materials. Examples include, but are not limited to, Michelangelo's David, certain (but not all) vintage pinup art, a renaissance-style painting of a nude female, or nude cherubs in the form of human infants (in the style of Raphael)

so buying/selling traffic and sponsors paying by paypal won't be affected? its just if you're buying/selling adult material that isn't sold on ebay mature audiences sites?

Perhaps this was at a different time, but I asked this question in a Q & A session.

thats right, when i first set up my site, i used ccnow and a few days before launch got their policy change email and had to ditch all that work, then got the Visa policy change email from iBill, and ditched them and all the work in setting up iBill, and then moved on exclusively to PayPal. Ugh!

I knew it was a matter of time.
Yeah jimmy3way, I remember that too. I remember Clay's Q&A b/c he "lost it" over the Pay Pal guy answering in a less than candid manner. Remember that if one "high risk" procesor stops taking adult, then it is not always a good thing for those of us remaining. It is also a definate problem for webmasters.

I just hope that webmasters understand that this probably means no recurring will run after May 12 and that Pay Pal will have to consider their risk in trailing chargebacks and credits absent new sign ups. Be careful.

Which is why CJBucks proudly uses Epoch as our primary processor.

This is an ill wind for the industry. More and more alternatives for accepting payments are moving away from the industry due to the abuses of a few webmasters. As the alternative means of accepting payments tighten down on paysites expect failures and reduced revenues for those of you who promote them.

I suspect more banks will refuse to open high risk merchant accounts and some will dump the ones they have now. If things focus down to only the Epochs, CCbill and Ibills of this world it will not be a healthy situation. All it will take is for one IPSP's to do a DMR and a significant percentage of people will get burned.

Competition is good, diversity is good and this narrrowing of options is very, very bad.

Interesting how they offered to reimburse people for the Visa/Mastercard fees ... when so few people have said they actually had to pay

There was a mass rush to PayPal back when the Visa fees were announced last September and put into effect in November. Many people didn't pay the mandatory Visa/MC fees, because when you set up a "buy it now" or "subscription" button the form doesn't ask you if you're doing it for adult or not.
Take a look at all of the adult sites out there offering PayPal as a payment option - do you really think ALL of them paid that $1500 fee? Think again, Gumby.

PayPal got a major slap in the face and reacted the same way Visa did - by putting its fist down and saying "we're not going to fuck with these chargebacks anymore".
They still process for adult products in the Mature Audiences categories in the eBay auctions - if this were about republicans or any of that bullshit, they wouldn't be doing that. It's all about control. In the auctions, feedback is a wonderful control where the actual users police the sellers, and SafeHarbor can cut anyone off at a moment's notice.
They don't have that control with non-auction transactions.

Get your head out of your ass, quit bitching about the republicans, and instead start bitching about your fellow webmasters who are lying to the surfers and cheating - and who are causing all of this shit to come down on the rest of you.
It's THEIR chargebacks that are causing this, not the Republicans.

First they make it very tough for anyone to get a high-risk merchant account in the US, pushing all the sites to the 3rd party processors. Then they make the processors report on each merchant by website. Anybody see this as a little suspect?

Why should visa care about charges by website? It's not as if, for example, a gym must report on chargebacks by store location. The reason is future content legislation. Visa wants adult out of the US, period.

And yes, you can point your finger at the republicans. The reason paypal doesn't apply this rule to adult on ebay is because they're just following the rules that are handed down to them by visa and getting away with as much as they can for the time being. Ebay is their company, so it's not a submerchant, it's the merchant, that makes the IPSP rules not apply.

This isn't the end of this. The iBills, and CCBills will keep having tighter rules imposed on them by Visa that they'll pass down to the webmasters. It's a very elaborate way for the bush administration to push adult out without fighting the constitutional issues. Because it's not the administration right? It's just your processor saying they no longer allow facials. And for the processor it's just big mysterious visa USA making it's elusive rules.

Sorry this rant is so long. One more bit. Have you ever wondered why Visa would -mind- chargebacks? They make plenty of money on them on merchant fees. Do you really believe chargebacks are such a bad thing for them? I'll give my conspiracy theory on this some other time.

Here are a couple things about Epassporte loading on a personal account to keep in mind --

First one is the risk management -- even though this is not a high risk transaction to load the card, there are still basic fraud prevention mechanisms in place. If you have a situation where your card is issued in a country other than your residence, it throws up a flag. This seems to be a rather prevalent problem with European cards.

The next issue is CVV2 -- while cards have the number printed on the back, not all banks support it -- if the charge is returned with an unsupported response on CVV2 then the charge will not go thru as I understand it.

If you have had the situation where you cannot seem to load the card with what you know to be a valid CC -- please email me -- [email protected] -- and include the date you tried to add funds, the name and address and the email, along with the last 4 digits of the cc -- I will then get back to you after risk management lets me know what the issue is, and I will make an alternate suggestion for you regarding your account setup -- one thing that would be helpful is for you to let me know what kind of dollar volume you intend to load onto the card -
