regardless, most bear attacks can be avoided if you are armed with knowledge. very good book on the subject, written by a bear expert who does research in the same are i live part-time, Banff National Park.
in the revised edition, they do the first study of how well spray deterrence works. very good results with Grizzlies. Reduced effect on Black Bears however.
