To disable IP Messenger, disable "messenger" from WinXP (not to be confused with MSN Messenger -- The IM chat tool).

Try BHO-Cop to get rid of the browser helper object, that if I am correct is causing this.

I had the same problem and BHO-Cop got rid of it.
