All true and I grew up with attitudes like yours.
But don't forget that both sides of the relationship have changed. First jobs were lost through down-sizing. Now they are outsourced or exported. And for maybe 20 years it has been common to hand out good jobs to people with the right bits of paper, rather than to people who can actually do them well.
I can understand younger people having the attitude that they are just so much cannon fodder and giving as little as possible in return.
