The patent is so broad as to be a joke and Acacia are preying they can take more money from the licensees than they spend before the judge says it's a BS patent.
This whole business works by scaring little people into paying money and telling the big guys, it's cheaper to settle than fight. Take more money than you spend and you end up with a profit. If we had all told them to  in the beginning we would never be in this situation.
