Kids' viewing of TV violence linked to aggression as adults

I have seen too many people on this board who must've watched way too much "Starsky and Hutch". With all the BS fight talk that goes on here this must explain alot.

Anyway as a father with another on the way this worry's me. As does most of my time spent on this board when I see all this macho crap. And just so I can head off any more macho crap I am 6'4" 275lbs. No I am not a scared little pussy.

It's that here people are focused on fear and consumption. There is an amazing emphasis on the Bible over Plato and Sophocles. The Greeks questioned and thought, stimulated the imagination, gave color to the world and form to what was inchoate; the Bible edits out nearly everything in life and presents a primitive, simple, bitter version of existence that makes you want to murder and die.

BTW there is probably more violence in Japan video or Mexican revistas then I see here in a year.

i was raised around violent games, movies, and music lyrics and i turned out fine.

you be your kids' role model, raise them with a good value system, and they're not going to go out and kill everyone. it's a parent's responsibility, not society.

i'm all for "don't take away my computer games because you can't raise your kids".

i'm not saying you're a bad parent in _any_ means, i'm just pointing out my stance on the issue

Says nothing about the households they were raised in.

It's a useless study. It would be like polling 329 kids to see what sneakers they wore as kids then pointing at Nike or Adidas as the reason some of them turned out more aggressive.

Interesting article. I'm curious, though, about the history of the children. For example, did they have a mom or dad that stayed at home with them? Did they come from divorced families? Were they from big cities?

I agree with lots of the comments here about a parent being the role model. The article just doesn't give enough information to determine if a postive role model is the key to a non-violent adult.

First when I came to this board..I thought everyone was macho and cool..and some was crazy. I was almost scared posting on this board...

now Im getting used to see posts with broken legs, fights...

My opinion is you get used to see things..but it dont effect you in that way that you start to like it. ok, you may start to like it but it takes some time man..and it depends on your personality.

its like smoking and tobac..some do it some dont. And for thos that do it..it dont tastes good the first time.

I went from 100 to 313,000 satoshis in 2 days! Lots of daily freerolls...
