What the hell should I charge for shooting photos for cd liners, posters, etc? A band you probably haven't heard of, but might have.

I'd suggest you find-out what the going rate is for fashion photographers in your region. In Sydney it's about US$1,000 a day, but like most things it's negotiable depending on supply, demand, reputation, experience, etc. Some earn a lot more others earn a lot less. It would also depend on whether you were required to come-up with the creative concept, whether you'd need to employ a stylist, whether you'd need to purchase any props, etc. If it's more than just shooting pics to fill the requirements of a creative director I'd charge more.

Thanks for the feedback, it gives me some things to think about. I am totally unfamiliar with working on anything either a) for my sites or b) for standard adult licensing.

I spent 10+ years producing brochures, annual reports, point of sale, etc. So I've commissioned my fair share of mainstream photography If you look in your Yellow Pages you'll probably find some photography agents. If you phoned and pretended to be a potential client you could get an idea of typical daily rates. Note the rates will vary depending on the style of photography (fashion, food, product, architectural, etc). Allternatively you could tell them the whole truth and you might even get some additional work from them. I've seen your work (ie. I'm Adam from Carnalia.com) and it's good It would not surprise me if someone was prepared to represent you.

For the most part, working with musicians interests me because it lets the work be art. That also means that the value can be hard to quantify.

The idea of getting an agent is an interesting thought. It would be great to get some mainstream work. Just not sure I have the time to add too much to my plate.

You've given me something to think about.
