Remember the cartoon of the tiger chasing the african boy around a tree until it melted into butter? I didn't even realize it was racist until I thought about it years later.

I don't think we need to get into semantics here. People who consider themselves equals can call each other what they like, but people who have oppressed another group and are trying to get away from that oppressive role really should avoid using derogatory terms to refer to the formerly oppressed population.

I worked at a resturant called "Sambos" as a kid. The main dining room had the Sambo story printed all around the walls in graphic detail - the tigers, etc..
That was a pretty large chain resturant like Perkins or Country Kitchen.. and that was in Iowa of all places...Comment
