Our deficit has shrunk by leaps and bounds, we can afford to throw away a few billion dollars on a good fleet of helicopters now. it's pretty bad that during their last peace mission there was one grounded helicopter for every 4 days of the mission. Those things are dropping out of the sky like crazy. I must say that I'm very impressed with the pilots courage. Imagine waking up knowing you have to fly something today that has a 1:4 chance of falling out of the sky.

unfortunately most war equipment out there is at least 20 years old. oddly enough, it's still "cutting edge". the only real exceptions i can think of are the yf-22 & 23. although i don't believe those are in common use yet. the f16 is still king.

look at the stealth, it came around in the 70's... it's as old as the space shuttle. but, it's going to be replaced soon i imagine, since it has a vulnerability now.
