    Playboy prepares "Women of Starbucks" spread, fair use catfight ensues

    According to this NYT story, Playboy Magazine is preparing a future photo spread on the "Women of Starbucks." It'll be kind of like the "Women of Enron" issue, only the steamy-hot barista babes are employed and jacked up on fat-free macchiatos. Evidently, news of the pending project has the coffee company whipped into a frothy boil -- Starbucks stated earlier today that it "is not affiliated with this project and does not endorse it."

    [Playboy spokesperson Theresa] Hennessey said that while Playboy had not approached Starbucks beforehand, it was sensitive to copyright and trademark issues. "However we use or title the piece, we'll be using it within the boundaries of fair use of trademark law. By saying 'Women of Starbucks,' that's using it an a descriptive manner within the boundaries of fair use," she said. "If the girls want to submit their photos and want to do something in their off time, they should be able to do that."

      So why can't I create a magazine and call it eros' chicks and do a "women of playboy" issue.

      Shit...By saying 'Women of Playboy' that's using it an a descriptive manner within the boundaries of fair use, If the girls want to submit their photos and want to do something in their off time, they should be able to do that.


      Better yet, I'll open up a coffer shop and have a bunch of bunnies serve coffee one night a week and call it "women of playboy" night.

                      one of the the BBW night clubs in London when it first started had BBW bunnies. The BBWs had tails and ears. Within two months this small club had a lawyer calling threatening to sue. They became kittens.

                              Nope. Same business, same kind of trademark applies. So fair use wouldn't enter into it.

                              If PC World wanted to do a spread on the Workstations of Playboy, on the other hand...

                                          cool...the club has gone a bit down hill lately but it is always fun if the good people are around. There website isn't worth looking at it stinks and they haven't updated it in yonks.


                                          There is another club just outside of London that just opened up and is really good.

                                          Anyway, don't you have the world famous Spankee's in your back yard or something?
