As you know, most of the multi-millionaires in this industry were rich before they got into the game.

yeah, they didnt specify. of course im sure if the guy had told them he was worth 500 million, they would have taken his word for it(their a step above the tabloids)

but considering how long GGW has been around and the kind of brand they have built with the mainstream audience, it wouldnt suprise me if he was worth 100 million.

I might believe that the whole Girls Gone Wild videos have made $100 million in revenue, but there is a difference between revenue and profit. I doubt he has $100 million in his bank account.

I dont agree or disagree but I learned a long time ago that its hard to figure out whats revenue whats profit someones got, how many times have you seen business go belly up that you thought are raking in extreme profits etc. you never know what and how else revenue comes into that biz or what expenses are really involved etc.

That's not totally true. The fact that your parents have money and success means more than just what they give you financially. It also relates to what you grew up believing was possible from your life. It means, too, that you had certain opportunities that people with different lives did not have.

I'm not saying that GGW or Bill Gates don't deserve respect for what they've done, but you have to realize that things do have context.

$93 million revenue off of video sales, at $20 a pop, thats 4,650,000 videos sold last year
that seems high to me...but assuming that was their sales, you have to assume that their sales is on a down trend....which means they have sold so much more in previous years

but if that figure is true, this guy has to be worth more than 100 mil, unless he pissed it all away or lost alot in the market

I watched the original GGW video, and I've never seen anything so boring in porn before. At first its kinda cool, but after 15 minutes it's boooring....same old thing over and over. Girl lifts shirt, shows boobs for 2 seconds and thats it, next! same thing, next! same thing, next!

I would still say their sales are prolly on a downward trend(you dont recurre for 3 or 4 years)...you have tp discount the other factors, such as overexposure, emergence of internet, increased broadband availability, greater accesibility to hardcore pornography, etc.

he owns mantra entertainment, they release like banned on tv shit, now i just saw something for blind date uncensored. they use recurr billing tactics to make their money. studied their operations in detail..

...he didn't make all that money selling VHS tapes. They rebill the shit out of you when you buy a tape..they keep sending and sending and sending and its tuff to charge material goods back. All they have to do it show proof that it was delivered and ya fucked. Most people don't go thru the trouble of sending the shit back

LINKS BETWEEN THE PORN INDUSTRY AND THE legitimate film world are often hard to come by given the sanitized corporate façades of most studios. But Joe Francis, who has earned more money on soft porn than should be allowed, may have surreptitiously and successfully crossed that transitive Valley border. For the last 18 months, Francis has maintained a quiet deal with Peter Guber's Mandalay Entertainment on video series such as "Playboy Mansion Parties: Uncensored." Separately, he has also distributed "Girls Gone Wild" and "Playboy Casting Calls" under the Mantra Entertainment label, which also has a partnership with Mandalay.

Mandalay -- which has had structured official film deals with Sony, Paramount and, finally, Lions Gate -- takes no credit on the videos, and you won't find Guber's name attached to anything.

Sources say the deal falls under Guber's Mandalay Sports Entertainment umbrella, which had originally been designed to foster an interest in minor-league baseball and hockey teams. In fact, Francis claims that the whole Mandalay Enterprise was born out of an interest in developing and distributing wrestling videos. Francis maintains that his videos are not about pornography, preferring to term it "reality TV.

"This isn't porn," he proclaims. "It's girls showing their breasts. It's like European TV."

Some Mandalay executives refuse to even acknowledge that Francis has any official link to the company, which has produced such highbrow titles as Enemy at the Gates and The Score. One former senior executive said he had never even heard of Francis. But other insiders allow for the fact that he works hand in hand with the Sports Division.

Francis has in the last month retained the public-relations firm BWR PR to cleanse his image and offer up salient points about the deal with Mandalay.

"I was doing a lot of other stuff," he adds. "I've done comedy videos and children's videos and animation. We have deals with pop stars. Mantra is pretty diversified."

Though he personally won't discuss the subject, none of this is alien to former Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Guber. In 1969, after watching a Sony demonstration of its new consumer-video technology at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Guber penned a ground-shaking, 15,000-word Hollywood manifesto about the earliest notions of a video industry. In "The New Ballgame/The Cartridge Revolution," Guber argued that new technologies would create a "great new pornographic market."

"One can make their own home movies, tapes and films as well as find distribution for them," he wrote. "Thus, home nudies with neighborhood actors and actresses are a certainty."

Joe Francis wouldn't be born for another five years. But Guber must have had him in mind in that wild, freewheeling summer of love.
