The America of 1776, 1876, 1976 and today were each very different place vis a vis freedom. In the old west, the local sherrif kept basic law and order in the town. Other than a few very basic laws, you were pretty much free to do whatever the hell you pleased. If you wanted to smoke opium in the center of town, you could do that. Life was not like the movie Tombstone or other westerns that completely exaggerate the amount of violence and gunplay in society. Shoot-outs were relatively rare.

Fast-forward to today and there a billion and one little laws that have been passed by local, state and federal governments. They even have laws that dictate that you can lose your job if you comment on your co-workers fine looking ass or tell an off-color joke. Laws like that would have been completely unthinkable just 40 years ago. If you proposed "sexual harrasment" laws in the 1950s in order to "protect" people, the general poplulation would have laughed their asses off. "You mean laws like the commies have? No thanks!".

We are more micro-managed today by the forces of government than ever before. If you transplanted a man from 1876 in to today's America he would probably die of shock from all the constraints placed on his life by the "authorities". And we haven't seen anything yet...

The world ten or twenty years from now will be as different as 1876 compared to 2003. Governments all throughout history have always tried (and succeeded) in gaining ever more greater levels of control over their poplulace. It is the (unfortuante) natural progression of societies. America has been the standout in world history. Only time will tell whether they remain so or not.
Of course the government is dynamic and should be. Do I approve of all of the Federal, and State laws, no. Do I approve of all of the County and City ordinances, no. Yes, overall we are more micro-managed today than we were in the past. Do I approve of all of the micro-management, no. All of the laws were approved by the majority of the American voters and or by their duly elected representatives and the Supreme Court is the ultimate arbitrator of all of these laws. I can live with it. If I decide that I can no longer live with it I will seek out a country where freedom reigns (assuming that I can find a country that allows more freedom than the USA provides).

You can twist words around in thousands of ways. For example, the President needs Congress's approval to declare war. Simple problem - Don't declare war, and call it a military action.
Congress can cut off the funding, as they did in the Vietnam era, thus the end of the military action.

Hey Wonton or whatever. I can fucking read can you??

        SEC. 224. SUNSET.
        (a) IN GENERAL- Except as provided in subsection (b), this title and the amendments made by this title (other than sections 203(a), 203(c), 205, 208, 210, 211, 213, 216, 219, 221, and 222, and the amendments made by those sections) shall cease to have effect on December 31, 2005.

        (b) EXCEPTION- With respect to any particular foreign intelligence investigation that began before the date on which the provisions referred to in subsection (a) cease to have effect, or with respect to any particular offense or potential offense that began or occurred before the date on which such provisions cease to have effect, such provisions shall continue in effect.

        http://www.epic.org/privacy/terrorism/hr3162.html

I have NO problem with the sections that are not due to expire. Most deal with actual terrorism, and wire tapping. Some even have points about chemical and bio weapons.

        Anything Else??

You are dead wrong. Another person who just prints something without doing any reading himself. The so-called "sunset clause" pertains to one very insignificant sub-section of the act. The great bulk of the act HAS NO SUNSET CLAUSE. And what little sunset provision is there, will be obliterated by Patriot Act II.
          /quote

So it only pertains to ONE sub-section???

Hee! Hee! Someone that actually read something. I clearly mis-stated what I wanted to say and thank you for pointing that out. And I already have a copy of hooked on phonics.

Now now do some more reading. The very subsections that you quote your above post that are NOT subject to sunsetting are PRECISELY THE offending sections that abrogate the constitution.

            Patriot Act
            draws Privacy Concerns

Furthermore, SECTION 110 of Patriot Act II restates that key police state clauses in the first Patriot Act were not sunsetted and removes the five year sunset clause from other subsections of the first Patriot Act.

Any which way you slice it, the offending clauses of BOTH Patriot acts will have NO SUNSET CLAUSES as soon as PA II passes. That is the bottom line!!

              No worries
              This only applies to Corporations.
              --
unfortunately you have all unknowingly made yourselves into corporations by signing certain contracts
Ie: Social Security Number, Being employed.
Saying you live in the United States Of America - which is a corp
Instead of Saying you live in America which is the Country.
signing tax returns, and much more , have put you into contractual obligations making you property of the Corp of the United States Of America.

You all have no idea what im talking about.

But once you understand who you are, it will all make sense.

You found one technical error in what I stated and on that basis you now want to say "Aha!! Now I can ignore EVERYTHING that you say or have said."

Well, the mountain of facts don't dissappear that easily. I stand by everything I said other than the error you already pointed out. The meat and substance of what I have reported absolutely remain intact. Both Patriot Acts are freely available to anyone on the net. If you read them, the truth will be evident.

All you fucks that support this shit better get a clue, you are no different than the people of 1930's Germany.

On March 2, [1933] Hitler was asked by a correspondent of the Daily Express whether the suspension of liberties was permanent. He answered in the negative saying that full rights would be restored as soon as the Communist danger was over. The reality was that the decree of February 28th established what would become the normal order of things under National Socialism - arrest on suspicion, imprisonment without trial, the horrors of the concentration camps. This condition would persist until the end of the Third Reich.

In Germany, the Nazis first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't communist. They they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionists. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Finally, they came for me, but there was no one left to speak up.

Martin Niemoeller, a Lutheran Pastor who was sent to the Dachau Concentration Camp in 1938.

That's the message I am trying to get across. It is not hard to understand what is going on. But it seems that people are intent on shooting the messanger. The mainstream media can retract reports left right and center. The CIA and FBI can simply say "Oops. We were incompetent." when the mountains of evidence of pre-knowledge of 911 got exposed. The masses still believe these sources.

But when one or two average citizens simply point to the government's own legislation, to historical facts or to glaring inconsistencies that exist in mainstream reports - look out! You must be a nut!

And it never ends....same thing over and over. The government has clear warnings that a terrorist attack is going to happen, even down to the very date and yet do nothing.

Well, if they are so incompetent, why do you people believe everthing that comes out of their mouths so blindly?

Wonton, I agree with you and I'm glad people like you have the balls to speak out. Unfortunately most people believe the bullshit they are fed and thus I fear we are heading down a very dangerous road. The scary thing is I think some people do realize whats going on and are all for it, and these are the same ones that call us 'un-american'.

Unfortunately most people believe the bullshit they are fed and thus I fear we are heading down a very dangerous road. The scary thing is I think some people do realize whats going on and are all for it, and these are the same ones that call us 'un-american'.
No, not un-American, just a kooky American.

When did I ever say that ABC, CNN and MSNBC are "not worth reading"? When? When? I have never said any such thing. And I in fact read these sources every single day.

What I have said, is that these sources are definitely BIASED and are practically mouthpieces for the facist agenda. But I never said they are not worth reading. It's just the opposite. People should read these sources and all other available sources.

What I try to point out with the mainstream media are the GLARING INCONCISTENCIES and the WHITE WASHING they perform on government cover-ups. I rely almost exclusively on government press releases, government legislative documents and reports in the mainstream media as my "sources of information". Even "conspiracy nuts" like Alex Jones quote the mainstream media at length. And the whole reason he (and I) do this is to underscore the blatant hypocracy inherent in these sources.

It's also another way of saying, "Hey, if you don't believe me and only believe stuff that you read on MSNBC then check out what MSNBC is saying...".

The mainstream media have to report some truth and the truths they wan to "hide" they generally report only once. If they did not report those nasty things at all then people would start to revolt. They know that. So they have to at least report the "dirty truth" at least one time to prove that they are not controlled. So they will report stuff that the Feds knew OKC was coming, that they knew 911 was coming and on and on... But they tend to concntrate their news broadcasting on either total irrelevant junk or on articles that futher the government-corporate agenda.

I thought people like you got hit by cars crossing the street and were culled from the general population at a relatively young age. Your ability to survive this long with a severe mental handicap is a marvel of nature.

If people like me were killed at a relatively young age then there would not be anyone to provide the control and therapy for the, more than likely drug induced, paranoia people like you suffer with.
