That's not to say that someday they won't be, hell even MikeW's early work wasn't exactly what you'd call good, or even original for that matter.
The point is, NOW, he's the man.
Supply and demand dictates his price, and obviously, he's in demand and his prices reflect it.
If his demand goes down, his prices will reflect that.
Simple.
But you, as a relatively well known designer shouldn't go pissing in his corn flakes because he charges more than you do.

My demand is pretty fucking extreme as well. I spend a good chunk of my day doing nothing but turning people away that want work. Does this mean my prices go sky fucking high? No. It means I take on less work because I'm full.

You have to look at it this way, when you have an ultra high end designer its like buying a Bentley or a Rolls. We all know darn well that a Mercedes is just as fine at a better price value, but when you have a Bentley or a Rolls in your driveway you are making a statement that says I can afford the best and don't give a fuck how much it costs.
Mike has the design genius of Picasso. He is a super nice guy also. And he works his butt off for his clients til the project is perfect.
Also, Mike is one of the most connected guys in the industry and can open any door for you. That factor alone makes his prices well worth the cost. If you would like to develop your domains, you can lease inexpensive foreign labor
