Driving to Webmaster Access - NYC to LA

I feel like taking a road trip to meet up with some Webmasters on my way out to LA for the Webmaster Access event on Nov. 21-23.

This is my 4 time driving around the US , so I am not really sure which way I want to take.

I have done the I-70 , I-40, I-80 and I-10 route before. I would love to head up north to I-90 around the Black Hills and Badlands National park . Over to the Yellowstone and The Grand Tetons , but maybe this is not a good time of year to do it !

I'm an hour south of Badlands and the Blackhills. We are just now starting get snow here and the Black Hills would be awesome too see right now. As far as the Badlands, I just drive threw that on my way up to South Dakota, they are half on a Native American Reservation. I wouldn't want to drive across the "Rez" at night though, they have the worst roads ever.

I don't mind weather, I drove around the US for 2 years , lived in my van in the middle of the winter in Deleware. Death Valley in the summer !

If you pass Phoenix, be sure to take some of my stuff to LA. 2 boxes, easily fit in trunk or backseat. I can pay your gas from Phoenix to LA (suppose you don't drive a hummer), or will take you to a real good Chinese restarant in LA.

My friends drove from Buffalo to Arizona to visit me and took the route you are about to. They LOVED it, they had done the other routes before, but they liked this the best. They loved the Badlands and that area...but I would suggest doing this in the summer!

Montreal - New Jersey !

I figure it is going to be another 2790 miles from NYC to LA.

So my total will be around 3167.8 miles drivin ! That is as long as I take the most direct route. I may have to zig zag a few times if anyone plans on driving further ! I like to win !

I did it years ago when I moved out here-
you'll avoid some harsh conditions then if you had gone way north.

Only downside is Oklahoma- boring other than that- you have great BBQ in texas and UFO sightings in New Mexico- or at least a few shooting stars.

All depends on immigration/customs at the border and if they'll let me pass.

As far as road closings in the Badlands / Black Hills, it does happen, just matters how much snow they are getting at that time. We have had quite a bit already in the past week, but it supposed to slow down next week.
