You do not think Microsoft never gave thought to patenting Streaming video technology before Aca company was even a piss spot of a thought?
Believe this. Microsoft most certainly put some thought into Patenting the technology then probably realised they couldnt then decided it better option to make the best technology in streaming video applications and concepts to further is validity as the dominant force it has today.
Remember Microsoft's history is filled with acquisitions in patents and battles regarding patents to gain ground at every corner.
