that is the question...I know I have seen hundreds of galleries out there that have been ripped off from people all the time so here is my question...

do u really care more about gallery theft of website theft? Now lets be honest here, there are lots of people here on GFY who are webmasters and who only submit galleries all day so therefore galleries are their livelyhood and try to become'professional gallerie makers"

i agree with this completely however, I know people who have "borrowed" gallery layouts from sites all day everyday and tweak it and addd their sponsor and pics...can one call gallery theft on a format of 5 pics and a banner and 5 more pics and a banner and so on witha text link above and below...catch my drift?

They have quite literally buiilt huge programs around it.

i agree with you one hundred percent,but arent these the same people who submit webmaster free hosted galleries on auto submitters and complain that conversions arent the same? I am in no way shitting on gallery builders in just trying to figure the stance from gallery makers on what they consider thieft and whats not..

getting layout ideas is different.

straight html view source copying is wrong.

if ya gotta view the source or right click save as, chances are ya doing something wrong.

its obvious most dont think galleries are worth complaining about, if that was the case, people wouldnt paypal me all the time asking me to make them, and pay to have someone do them.

galleries are worthy of protection.

If some guy pays me 600 bucks for 30 + galleries should you be able to just copy them to your needs?

There is a helluva a difference between the banner 5 pics banner 5 pics layout and what Fletch does. You have to clarify what you mean by gallery theif.

There's only so many ways you can arrange 15 thumbs with advertising on a page.

Everyone who builds galleries at one time or another surfed around on TGP's checking out galleries and getting ideas.

That's way different than flat out copying someone's work.

maybe theres miscommunication.

theres a huge difference between checking out a layout, and graphical image and gallery theft.

if I design a gallery for someone and do a logo and add edges etc to a gallery you cant rip it, but you can say 'ahh, i dig how he put that text there and aligned it to the right etc...

If you spent your time (hence money) in making custom graphics and banners for the gallery and thinking and using some know-how to make the gallery sell, and then someone takes 1 minute to do file/save as, i believe it is thievery.

Not that i've had any experience with this matter of course

I'm gonna admit straight out that I stole a gallery design once. But since I am in ebony and his was teen white girls and our sponsors differ, I didn't think he would really mind....I only used the layout to make two galleries and then I moved on to a better formula.

I just took the layout...of course the content had to be different...

I don't do it now however. I found something that was more effective on my own. I like that because I never have to look over my shoulder at somebody crying about being ripped off..

Yes of course, but just some ideas you see, and try to improve them.

And i think everybody started at that point, you can learn a lot looking around other people's galleries, chances are whatever you do it was tried before by others

I see your point, a generic gallery can be defined as 5 pics, ad 5 pics, ad, etc. and that basic format is the essence of a gallery, and what TGPs expect from you.

Innovation sometmes is worthless, i have tried to submit a 100% flash gallery once and i think 2 or 3 brave tgps listed it.
(i have yet to see an horizontal scrolling tgp)

Furthermore, i never picked up something i like, changed the thumbs, voila. Maybe because i enjoy to play around with the gallery and feel proud of my work afterwards.

i'm a legend in my spare time.

I think work is work, no matter how easy or hard it is. If there's a mass of people asking for gallery templates, then I guess it must be worth something. btw, I doubt there are many gallery makers not involved in another sides of adult biz, like TGPing, AVS or whatever.

I admit, I stole a gallery once, but once I loaded it in FrontPage, I started fuckign aroudn with it, opened photoshop, made new banners/graphics/highlights etc etc. By the time I was done, it looked nothing like the origional, even teh thumbs were diferent sizes/placement. etc etc The only thing that was still the same was the general pattern to the html code, like he used some kind of weird WYSIWYG editor. Ironically, i got a good chunk of sales from it. Even though I found it at around the 75th position at thehun. When I submitted mine, I was listed alot higher.

I migth as well have just started from a blank page In frontpage, cause what I stole, was just thrown out for being too ugly and too bandwidth heavy.
