to determine if they really do want videos and/or live feeds? I thought I read something about 6 months ago that said surfers really didn't want this as much as they wanted more relevant content.
Surfers want content that is relevant to why they signed up. If you join a regular 'ole adult megasite type site, you want more of everything. If you join a specialized site, you're not going to give that much of a shit about more generic porn content. Too many sites out there try to make up for a lack of relevant content by shoving generic feeds at their customers, I don't think it helps.
I think the porn industry is ready for some market research. How long until a banner goes stale? How many times does the average surfer visit before they buy? Would they buy again? Are we reselling the same folks or is it once and never again? That ype of stuff would be great to know.
Market research can help everyone involved in the biz
what are pic to vid click ratios within members areas?
when offered different sizes of pics, which are most popular?
how offensive do members find upsells and at what price range do they take less offense?
etc etc
I would LOVE to have factual answers not just conjecture
netrodent .. no comment *sigh*

My server stats indicate they hit the video areas the hardest. have been updating the past year with videos and plan to do the same this year.
Members hate up sells-my emails tell me so. Why should they have to pay when they already paid a membership fee. I dont have any upsells in my members area now.
What is of note is that the traffic I have is voyeur/public nudity/teen/party girls... and what I offer is mostly video... so my members who participated in my survey are coming from that sort of a niche marketplace.
I did ask them to rate the importance of each type of content; live feeds, video, pictures; and everything was pretty much rated as equally important. What does that mean? I guess that they want it all!
Im often surprised by just how much my photo galleries get hit. I mean, I have photos and video of the same wet t-shirt contest, and the pictures sometimes get hit more. And its not just from dial-up users, because the software I have for streaming to dial-up users is really awesome, and they can see the videos clear with sound.
What I want a survey on is WHAT DO WEBMASTERS WANT??
Well, I did a poll on videos back in November. Wanted to know if surfers preferred downloadable or streaming, and what the video format was that they preferred to view.
So out of 10,000+ unique votes on the poll (one vote per surfer), here were the results:
What delivery meathod do you prefer to watch video over the internet:
Download it to your hard drive and watch it: 79%
Streaming in real time on a web site: 21%
The next one was a little more surprising:
What video format is your favorite for watching movies from the web:
MPEG (.mpg, .mpeg): 35.29%
DIVX (.avi): 0.00%
Quicktime (.mov): 17.65%
AVI (.avi): 0.00%
Windows Media (.wmv): 47.06%
Edit: This survey was conducted on over 50 websites, spanning 4 different niche markets, including: BBW, Ebony, Big Tits, and Voyeur. The survey ran for 4 weeks, in which time 10,153 unique votes were cast.
this is great stuff!
to some this information might seem trivial but its actually a motherload to those of us understanding its worth.
I always thought the younger surfer spent less overall than the older farts and here I see differently.
Downloadable vids make sense (thats how I prefer them also) but the format preferred was a surprise.
And to be honest, with a goodly number of surfers still on dialups, I expected pics rather than vids to be the hottest choice.
One thing I noticed is that very little was mentioned about live feeds and being able to talk one on one with performers .. this is interesting to me.
All of this info can be used in targetting as well as advertising on tours and feeders alike.
The science of understanding your audience is the name of the game!
Nikkay,
I've done some surveys with webmasters over the years, what kinds of things do you want to know??

What percentage of surfers know what a movie format is? How many just know they have Windows Media Player and so assume it must be Windows Media files that it plays.
It is very easy to draw misleading conclusions from surveys if you're not careful.
