27% for $40 months on 3 day free trials.. as a pure experiment, I tried 1 day free's that converted at $50, with guess what in the members area -- FREE CONTENT and they converted like 3% less.. averaging 50 joins/day to the site for two weeks.. pretty funny.. content is overrated
i make really good money off 27% .. its volume man.. its all the freaking same.. look at ARS sites.. they suck.. topbucks sites suck (dunno about new reality sites).. I would bet they didn't retain any less than some super specific site like one of Lightspeed's.. their conversion is like 25-30%.. Dude, it's all the same.. the simple fact is that the way we make money is people forget to cancel... Hate to be cynical but it's true.
You might be able to add high quality broadband movies and some really good webcams or something and boost your % up like 5% or so.. but other than that, it's all the same... You could do some nastydollar type sites that are pretty good and maybe add another 5% on top of that, but why bother with all the original content when you can just do some shit plug in turn key site with 1/10th of the hard work and make just 10% less $? that's my opinion, but I guess that's coming from someone who wants something (and gets it typically) for nothing...
nah around 40%. But you simply can not survive on 27%. sorry.
I gotta argue with you on that.. I do really well off 27%.. its cuz of ezclicks tho.. those retain at like 33% or so to really similar sites... I do very well off 27%.. but its with a ton of sign ups I guess

sites are pretty private.. i could post screen shots of daily sales or something i guess to prove i'm not bullshitting.. but i really do pretty ok off 27% avg.. that's all I was saying.. why are you asking for trouble? i dont understand
Yeah I agree.. it would be really good for more.. but I just mean.. you can throw up any site and retain at 30% average, or work your ass off and retain at 40%... is it worth it? That was sort of my point... i'm not dissing anyone who has better #'s..

I hear ya.. im not trying to either... 10% of lets say 100k a month is 10k... wouldnt you like an extra 10k to spend on toys or whores or drugs or something though? Im a work-a-holic so hard work doesnt bother me.

true maybe i'll go buy a shitload of movies or something
40% is about average for cookie cutter sites on the Epoch free trials, any less and I'd be very worried.
On regular paid trials to rebill 60% used to be cream of the crop, now 40-50% is considered great. Some niches hold like crazy of course, but they have to be done right.
I can think of a few sponsors who retain a lot better than the ones mentioned in this thread, but I guess that's why they're still good.

Well let me qualify that:
two different dubious program owners have claimed 40% with Epoch free trials.
I have heard similar ruminations from other people, but I haven't been inside to see the stats. So much bullshit in this industry lately, definitely a sign of hard times ahead.

Dude, you are totally right here. Free trials suck. I use them though, because people sending me traffic like them.. free trial avg with paycom is 25-30%.. that is my avg with the free trials, and everyone i've asked says the same thing.. I think that anyone who says better should fucking prove it. (screen shot)
I would be glad to post my screen shots.. its like 27.5% over all with epoch free trials
the paid trials do like 10-15% better on average, but 10-15% less sign ups.. free trials are better for affiliates but not the program owner.
true maybe i'll go buy a shitload of movies or something
i never really considered it in $ figures
I don't know you from adam - but i gotta assume you're not doing any serious volume - eventhough you illuded to volume being the way you are able to stay happy at a lower % retention.
But NOBODY does serious volume and somehow 'never really considers' the dollar implications of their decisions.
besides - 3 minutes with a piece of paper can point out that these decisions are no brainers. a small increase in revenue -- usually results in large impacts on the profit margin -- which is the owner's take home/reinvestment capital.

What you need to think about is that extra 10% is profit. Thats an extra $1K or $10 to spend on yourself.
But the problem goes deeper than the extra work, their are some webmasters who could work 25 hours a day and will never increase their earnings that much. Ant then their are guys that work 2-3 hours a day and make a fortune. It's down to your ability to supply the product that the surfer wants.
Give him 1 day or three days trial it's largely irrelevant, if after 2 hours he's decided this is just another pile it high with little thought porn site.

yeah well assume what you will, it doesn't really matter.. i just have a cynical approach to everything.. but i am happy with my volume.. it is probably more than yours, and i don't really have to justify myself to you... post some stats.. i could post my sales for today

Does 24 hour trial convert better than 3 day
Does 3 day convert better than 4 day
Does 4 day convert better than 5 day?
This is sincere question
Hey.. here is what I do:
I mix them up purposely (The cross sales)
I do a 2 day trial for the main site
a 5 day cross sale and a 1 day cross sale
The one day converts the best but with the most credits.. The 5 day is probably the best, actually. More time for them to forget to cancel. Just in my experience.

I agree with you 100%. When you make enough money to break even every cent over that is spending money. So the $5000 you make over is WAY better than the first $5000 you make. Because all of that money is yours to spend.
But About Your Math
yea but is the math right?
30% + 10%=40%
100k=30% 13....
ahh fuck it im a moron, i cant figure it out
You are basing 10% on cash when you do your figures. But you originally said if you retain 10% more customers.
Example
You get 10,000 trial signups in a month. If 30% convert at $40 for instance you would gross $120,000. On the same example if 40% converted to paid on the same month at $40 your gross would be $160,000. In this example a 10% increase in rebills equals a 25% increase in gross income. Which brings me back to my first post. Now you have $40,000 extra $$. More of this 40k is yours than the rest because it is all extra.
This is especially true for those of you that pay on a free trial regardless of conversion. Being that you paid out on every free trial a 10% increase in rebills is a HUGE gain for you since you paid for that customer up front.
And since nobody mentioned it I will ask. Out of the people that rebill what is your average length of membership in months?
"I try to make a habit of bouncing my eyes up to the face of a beautiful woman, and often repeat “not mine” in my head or even verbally. She’s not mine. God has her set aside. She’s not mine. She’s His little girl, and she needs me to fight for her by keeping my eyes where they should be."
"40% is about average for cookie cutter sites on the Epoch free trials, any less and I'd be very worried. "
I can not agree with you on that one, it took us a while to get to 40%. I wouldn´t mind taking a look at your membersections to find out how you get a even higher percentage ...
Even getting 40% conversions on Epoch free trials im willing to bet your credits are farely high aswell probably 5-6%
Lots of guys are using these Ezclicks aswell. This has to have an affect on retention maybe not as much on conversion from free trial but in the long run I'm sure it does especially sites using two of them.
Anyone have experiments on Ezclick affecting retention and or conversion they would like to share?
EpcCsh_PD, please post some ideas on how you convert at 40%.
One strategy I use is to have so much content that they can't possibly get through it in one sitting. That ups the chances that they'll forget to cancel.
My newest site is not really porn and I don't have a trial, so I'm a little out of touch with this issue.

Dude, you are totally right here. Free trials suck.
Using ezclicks, we found more people accepted a paid trial offer than a free trial offer. Also, fallout % on free trials was way higher. With $1 3 day trials have worked great for us.
