Road Trip From Montreal to San Diego - Where to stop

I'm just about to drive up with my car from Montreal all accross USA to San Diego... need to bring my car up there, so I will be spending 6-7 days on the road to get there... but I wouldn't want to miss a few good sceneries, or stop by a few places if they are worth the stop and can add them to my itinary...

Anybody got good ideas as where I should go by or where I should stop?

For those of you not sure where MTL is, it's basically starting in New York.. Only 6 hours away...

Hit South Dakota and check out the Black Hills area. You'd be surprised at how much stuff is there, it's a great place to visit.

I mean, I'm mainly gonna Drive by and see it while driving, or stop for no more than a few hours... considering I have to travel 2800 miles in 6 days ;)

I'm jealous. I've known a few people who have driven across the country and all of them said they loved it and want to do it again.

If you have the time I would go down the east coast so you can see boston, nyc, dc, atlanta, then head west and go through lousiana, texas and the grand canyon.

I'll have to do it more in a Diagonal trajectory...
can't really go all the way to georgia... considering I have to be there a week from Today ;)

I was definately gonna drive by Grand Canyon / Vegas... Vegas being my favorite town LOL

but, I was also thinking of Mt RushMore... and possibly Old Faithful or something... but I dunno much of the things to see... aside the world's biggest ball of yarn LOL.. no really, I'm clueless ;)

tell me what this great country has to offer... road sceneries are the best, since I don't have to stop ;)

If you're going to do a straight shot it sucks, but if you're willing to go 50-100 miles off course at a time, it can be alot of fun, make sure to hit all the cities.

Being in different cities & seeing the cultural difference is really amazing, just from richmond, va to NJ is a big difference in the way people do things, the food etc.

I suggest everyone travel this country, sure some of it is shitty, but a vast amount is a good experience

yeah, I can definately take a few extra miles... just not an extra 500-1000

gave myself 5 days to travel (10 hours a day, 50 hours total) and 1 day extra (10 hours road + stops included) of tourism...

so , say I do 15 hours the first day, then I can add 5 hours of tourist time etc...

I just need to know where to stop really, in a sort of Diagonal path

it's an old piece of shit... but after all I paid in the last few months, it shouldn't break... everything that wears has been changed almost...

only thing is the engine... but that happens with all old cars... although Mazda`s usually go 200 miles +, which mine is far from

I spent 2 years traveling around the US living in the back of my van. I don't think 6-7 days is long enough to see that much.

I would start at Grand Prix and hit every strip club and brothel along the way !

Personally, I'd start in montreal and head over to the north shore of lake Superior which has great scenery. Stop and see the twineball, statue of Paul Bunyon and the headwaters of Missippi in Minnesota. Then over to the black hills/badlands/mt rushmore/crazy-horse/devils tower. Westward again to Glacier national park, especially Going-to-the-Sun highway. Then head south along the Rockies, take a detour to Salt Lake, and continue down to the four-corners area. See meterorite crater/mesa verde/alamagordo/roswell then over to vegas and the hoover damn. Drive through death valley at night and on to San Diego.

Badlands are quite a ways south of Mount Rushmore. A few hours atleast. Nothing to exciting if you ask me. Just some rugged ass stuff I drive through it quite a bit. Don't mind the Natives walking along the highway either

ive driven back and forth across the US more times than i can count or remember.

ive driven from New Orleans to el paso without sleeping, i can drive for days.

the road is life.
