I'm not going to get into details, but I will say this:
I was in a situation a while back where I hadn't stolen anything yet, but planned on it. 1998 sonoma, friends were urging me to steal is so we could take it for a spin.. Needless to say, the owner comes sprinting out his front door, his friend behind him, and they proceed to chase me and one of the guys there down and beat the shit out of us.. I limped for like 3 months after that one.. Instead of just telling the police to, "toss him to the dogs", he told them he'd rather see me go through some kind of program where you dont get a record, instead you meet the victim of the crime and come to an agreement on what has to be done to make things better...
Instead of autotheft on my record, I got to know the guy really good. Turns out he spent time in prison, and up until 10 years before, lived in a motel room selling heroin.
From that point on, I had a different outlook on life, and especially criminals. They weren't scum so much anymore as they were people with problams..
