Question on getting a speeding ticket in another state

I'm just wondering if you get a speeding ticket in another state, will the state that the license was issued know about it. In other words, will my insurance go up

The cop acted nice, but was a dick when it came time giving me a ticket. I was driving from Green Bay, back home to Michigan. It was late, so I was just cruising along and all of a sudden I saw the red and blue lights flashing behind me.

He clocked me going 58 mph in a 35 mph zone, which was 23 mph over. He like got me right after the speed limit dropped, which pissed me off.

Anyways, instead of giving me a break and writting the ticket for 5-10 mph over, like most of the time they do, he wrote me the full amount over, which carries a $124 fine and pops 6 points on my license.

What gets me thinking is that the guy said that I'd better not get 6 points in Wisconsin otherwise I'd lose my license, he never said anything about the points in Michigan.

Which gets me back to my question, will the ticket come up on my license if an insurance company checks into it in Michigan OR am i ok ??

Generally, each state has its own point system. So the points should not transfer. However, more often than not, if you *lose* your license, they will be in touch with your home state to let them know.

I don't think it ever shows up if you don't pay it.

That was a speed trap, he was sitting there waiting for you. Typical midwest cop trick with so many towns dropping the speed limit.

Your best bet is to pay that ticket and avoid possible headaches down the road, can't be more than $100?

take a driving class (can even do it online for 4 hrs) and receive 0 points on your record and a reduced ticket fee... (atleast here in FL)

typically some states have agreements with others to transfer points from one to another. usually if the state is "touching" the other, they do transfer. you can call your DMV and find out for sure though.

Yeah, you're right there, he trapped me alright. I guess that it's getting close to the end of the month, so he had to make a few bucks, he he he.

As far as the ticket fee, he wrote right on the ticket that it's $124.80, which really blows. I'd better work on getting some extra signups here to cover that, he he he.

I'm glad to hear that the points shouldn't transfer over. I know that I'll be watching myself in Wisconsin, ha ha ha.

Thanks for the driving course tip, perhaps I'll give that a try.

I thought about asking the judge if he could be leanient on me since I was from outta town, but I wonder if he'd cut me any slack.

If you have a *LIONS* sticker on the bumper...they double the fine...

$125 isn't bad for going that much over the limit. Suck up and pay it.

Your insurance will go up (eventually) if you get a ticket in another state.

Happened to me -- when I changed insurance compaines -- the old company (the one I had when I got the ticket) never said a word, but the new company asked me about it when I signed up.....

a long time ago I got a speeding ticket in california. I was living in Cali and I got the ticket when I was moving back to oregon - it was cali's way of saying goodbye to me ) anyway, I never paid it and eventually I got a letter saying that if I didn't they would suspend my drivers license. Since I no longer had a cali drivers license I didn't really care. So I never paid it and about a year later I got a letter saying that if I didn't pay it they would put out a bench warrent for my arrest in Cali. So if I ever went back to cali and got pulled over they could arrest me. so I paid it then.

                            No one trapped you.

You were speeding, I always fail to see how people complain when they get a ticket.

You were speeding, its as simple as that.

Pay the fine and mvoe on.

It's called reciprocity, and most states have it, so you could be fucked. You can call your local MVA and find out more info then here

I also wouldnt listen to JFK, thats a real bright recommendation, "Lie to your insurance company" ??....very smooth.....

Trust me, a Wisconsin judge will not cut you any slack for being from out of town. If anything, he'll have your car towed from the courthouse parking lot and have you thrown in jail for contempt of court or something.

Generally speaking, you don't want to get a ticket in Wisconsin.

I dont think you insurenace company will find out tho

But if you do not pay the ticket you can get a suspended lic sooner or later i know people that live in il and did not pay some out of town tickets and get suspensions.
