Actually, as someone who has actually studied ethics at the grad school level and has *taught* ethics, I can say that ethics make no sense at all in a relativistic context. Relativism=no ethics at all. Thus, to believe that people should be ethical (and be logical and consistent about it), one needs to believe in absolutes. The idea that ethics should (or even CAN) be relative is not a popular notion in the ethics classes of this country, though social scientists and psychologists seem to be convinced it's true, even though they have little or no understanding of ethics in any kind of rigorous way.
