Epoch has two possible pronunciations, one like 'epic' and one like 'eepock'.

IS Prime would be the common pronunciation since one word is contained in the acronym (if that's what it is). English speakers seek out words and sounds they recognize in things that do not appear familiar to them as a whole. There are a ton of examples
I'm blanking on right now. You could probably find some German words that became Americanized into horrible translations.

Niche is French, pronouced 'neesh' as you mentioned. Most people say it 'nitch' even foreign webmasters I have talked to, which amuses me.

Like whoa is from a rap song, 'whoa' being pronounced just like you'd say it if you saw some beheading videos on GFY.

One of the most frequently abused words on this board is "beastiality." No such word exists (check for yourself over on http://www.Merriam-Webster.com).

The actual word is "bestiality."

Words have pretty standard pronunciation. However, if it is the name of a company or product, I guess the correct answer is whatever the creator/owner says.

I would say, of the ones that don't belong to someone, that...

Niche = "nish" (unless you're french)

These three sortof each belong to someone, but I think they go like this...

GIF = "giff" (not "jiff")
JPG/JPEG = "JAY-peg"
MPG/MPEG = "EM-peg"

I speak a little french, and I've always hated hearing Americans murder french words. However, some words become assimilated into English, and the original pronunciation loves relevance. The "i" in niche is pronounced like short-i in Engligh, not the french "i" that sounds like English long-e.

Yeah, I gather that the compuserve people (or whoever started the format) galled it a Jiff. However, words do change, and a lot of common usage has gone on to push in the direction of "giff".

What the hell... I'll take a stab at this (only because I a similar conversation with my 13-year-old son the other week)

Niche - I studied French in high school, so I started out saying "neesh". However, I've been trained out of it in speaking with other webmasters. Nowadays it sounds more like "bitch" or "rich".
MPEG - Em-peg
JPEG - Jay-peg
GIF - like "gift" without the "t" on the end (The hard "g" here makes it easier to differentiate between the pic types in conversation)
ISPrime - eye ess prime
Epoch - like epic (what the hell is an EE-pock anyway? LOL)
Equinox - I've always said "EE-qui-nox"; forgive me if I've mispronounced you
