    Error on the hun

    Any advice on this one would be greatly appreciated.

    I've used pretty much the same htaccess for a couple of years now that sends all 404 traffic to a sponsors page. This is simply to prevent those good old nasty hotlinkers.

    Today however after submitting to the hun, I got the error message redirects 404 to ads. Is this new? I've never seen it before.

    I've emailed him and asked for a response but I'm curious as to what others think. Is this NOT common practice? Or is this considered cheating? Maybe I've been doing it wrong for the last two years.

    If so, what do you do with all your 404's and what do hotlinkers get when they try to access your page?

    I figure he probably gets so many people redirecting, he just wants to stop it all and that's fine, I can fix the problem for him.

      maybe your host is banned ? i think hun banned all cogent hosts

              The Hun doesn't like when you redirect 404 to a page that doesn't say 404 file not found. You can direct hotlinkers anywhere you want but 404 and hotlinkers are 2 different things.
              I use .htaccess to redirect 404s to a 404 page on my server and hotlinkers to a sponsor.

                      Yeah Hun does a host check on all the galleries he gets to see if they are using cogent (are you an expensive host by any chance trying to reason your rates? or are you a sucker to an expnsive host?).. man you guys crack me up!
