    Forum question

Do more people sign up to forums if they can at least see threads but can't post or do more sign up when they have to register to even see the threads?

i.e. the first can attract alot of visitors who will lurk forever but will they ever sign up down the road?

the 2nd will probably force them to sign up because they want to see what's inside but if they choose not to sign up they probably won't come back

        ok, i'll make it easy

        A. some forums (that you've never been to) when you click a thread pop up the register page (so you can't see the thread until you sign up)

        B. others (like GFY) allow you to see threads but not post until you've registered.

Which type do you think gets more people to register?

type A will force people to sign up in order to see a thread

type B can get alot of people to just come by and lurk but never register because they dont care to post.
