What's the best, PC or Mac?

I'm thinking of maybe getting a new computer...
What should I should I spend my money on, a PC or a Mac?

    Pro's and Con's please!

      go with pc....

mac has a sweet design and they run faster that pcs do but after the new baby smell wears off you'll be frustrated on how its so limited on software.. thats my opinion anyways

I'm going to use it for webdesign, photoshop and such...

A Mac would probably make me more productive as there's not as many games available for Mac as for PC...

Anyhow...I've got a few of both, and I prefer the Macs.

The updated OSX rocks as does everything else. If you get one of the speedier units, you can run Virtual PC which will allow you to run all those programs that you use on your PC in a Windows enviornment...on the Mac. It's not the best on slower machines, but all the new models should work just fine. Check out the Dual Processor G4 Power Mac...I just got one for my girlfriend and she's in heaven.

I'm hoping to get myself the new 17'' Powerbook in the near future.

                  Spend you some brain.

just make sure u can view your stuff somewhere on a real windows machine (which will be the vast majority of your target audience)... gamma differences between the two can be quite dramatic

I'm not sure, but I think that Photoshop or Fireworks has the option to view in both settings. I'm not sure which one, but I think it's one of them. I know I've seen it before somewhere.

I met a guy who said he had both a PC and a Mac motherboard in his computer case and he could switch back and forth. I don't know if he was full of it or what because I never heard that before.

I have a g4 with os X and i also have a new dell 3ghz and a gateway thats 6 months old both with xp pro. i was getting so tired of old mac before i got this one i was ready to use my pc for everything but os x is pretty sweet... os 9 compared to xp licks balls. i like os x way better than xp and it has NEVER crashed... no shit.

already my gateway forgot it had a sound card, and the integrated network card broke so i have to use a usb adapter.. and windows is so jacked i cant do shit anymore cuz i have dll probs.. i have to reinstall. also my dell is about a month old and it just locks up for no reason at least once a day... all i use it for is to play games and listen to mp3's.. not even a blue screen.. just a complete freeze and a sound that sounds like a motor running... maybe its dell and not windows though.

I like both my mac and my pc but i think os x is way better as far as interface and stability. thats just me though and for what i use my systems for. Im sure windows xp is great for some people. its whatever floats your boat.
and as for macs not havin enough apps i dont think thats a prob. every single i app i use is on both and i dont really need a bunch of shareware.

pc's have better thumbnail gallery creation apps though thats one thing i hate about the mac... and macs rule for gaming if you like quake 2 cuz i think it just came out. hah

get a pc with windows 2000 (much better control than xp... i hate how xp has administrative tools in the control panel)... mac is better from a hardware design standpoint... they didnt have any irq issues or other bs that pc's had but they arent as easily upgraded either... bottom line is that anything you can do on a mac you can do on a pc... there is a lot more availible for pc than there is for mac...

The thing that made me take another look at making Mac my main bitch is when I ran a large Fireworks batch process, uploaded an entire sites directory in Dreamwaver, had a DVD movie playing & minimized, and also downloading 234kbs worth of mpgs in Limewire and had a few webpages open and actively surfing all at the same time and nothing was lagging. A pc would have crapped it's pants.

                                          Macs deserve a second look.

We use Macs and PCs at home and work. Since OSX came out, I do not even want to go near the PC. Apples rules again!

That new 17" Powerbook is very tempting.

I've used both. I prefer a WIN2K pro over a Mac any day.

                                                              When Mac freezes, you're fucked.

Also, someone said earlier how he had all these things running at once, and his Mac could handle it, and that PC would have crashed... my responce is "Good for you, you must be one of the legendary lucky ones".

I (even today) CAN NOT for the life of me get a fuckin' mac to multi task. For PC, I can run many programs at once. I often create thumbnails (running in a batch action I created in PhotoShop), upload CFF clips, and edit new ones. Every time I want to switch to a new program on a mac, I have to completely close the first program, before I could open another. Try running photoshop, and final cut at the same time... "QUACK", followed by, "FATAL ERROR"... you're fucked.

However, the one thing I must say about mac is, I'd rather use mac over a WinXP. Yes it's true, XP sucks more than macs do, and macs really suck.

...no offense, but you're obviously running OS9 - I believe new macs won't even boot into OS9, and as OSX is a Unix based OS it's multitasking is superior to Windows.

I use both, and I think OSX is better at running multiple tasks, although definitely slower at single tasks.

However you cannot function without having a PC, because a PC is what 95% of your clients will be using. Flip side is if you admin your own linux servers it can be nice to use an OS with a native terminal etc... (I guess the same is true if you use NT servers, but then you would have to be a fucking moron)

The force quit in OSX means you can kill any process, or you can kill processes from the terminal - so no freezes.

Finally, security on OSX is much better, you always have more control over what is running on your machine - something you are never sure about with XP - also there are no known viruses etc... for OSX - yes you can stop giving a fuck about the 300 + spam virii you get each day.

Rock solid and reliable, I cannto stand Windows XP and the built in spyware. Just be sure your apps will run on a MAC and you will be much happier than with a PC.

Yes it's true, XP sucks more than macs do, and macs really suck.
ok i still use OS 9.2.1 on the machine i'm on right now, i've never gotten a "fatal error" not even a sad mac or a bomb, i did get them when i was using a performa but ever since i went to my first G3 i haven't had any problems, and personally i'd change the fucking quake noise if i were you that shit is just annoying, as far as multi-tasking is concerned on this machine alone, i've ran a hotline server, dreamweaver, interarchy (uploading) and played UT all at the same time and didn't have any problems besides my internet lagging cause of too much traffic. I honestly don't see why you've had such problems with macs, maybe it's just an operator error.

The "no software" argument is crap UNLESS you're into serious gaming - and then there's no doubt that PCs have the edge. I work on a Mac 10-12 hours a day 6-7 days a week. Since I installed OS X in June I have experienced exactly 0 system crashes.

I use Dreamweaver, and Photoshop. I often work with Dreamweaver and Photoshop and three browsers open simultaneously, plus sometimes Word and AOL on top of it all. Can't multitask? Give me a break.

In the adjoining office suite is some guy on a PC. He screams 3-5 times a day, when his PC crashes. I just laugh.
