The patents are NOT valid in Canada. HOWEVER, if you host in the US or have a US corporation, you are still subject to Acacia's patents. If you are STRICTLY Canadian (as I am), and they actually server you, phone them up and laugh really loud, ok?

                According to their list at
                http://www.acaciatechnologies.com/patents.htm
                they don't list Canada.

What if you generate revenue by linking to other unlicensed U.S. based sites that stream video?

i.e. anyone that is based in Canada, hosts in Canada, but uses U.S. affiliate programs like Oxcash, etc.

More than one person has said Acacia claims this is also considered infringement.

My understanding on this (and I may very well be mistaken) is that while US patents are not automatically valid in Canada they still carry a lot of weight.

The IMPA answers this question here...

                    http://www.impai.org/patent.html
