TV Out on PC's graphic card

I have this line out option on the new pc, but it looks like a ps2 connewction. How exactly does thisa work? If I buy a cable for that, can I watch TV on the PC, even watch the DVDs on the TV?

    Please fill me in

Well since it is a graphic card you're talking about you'll most likely not be able to watch tv on your pc, you need a tv card for that, but you will be able to watch dvd's in your dvdrom on your tv, with tvout. Didn't you get a cable with your card?

      Thanks.

No, no cable with the card. I'll go ask the shop where I bought it.

Sounds like you need an s-video cable, tv out is good for playing games on the big screen or watch DVD's if you don't have a dvd player, but don't even try to use your pc as a pc through the TV (i.e surfing the net) you will well and truly fuck your eyes up if you can even standing it, cos TV's are very bad quality compared to monitors

If I manage to setup that link, will it be possible to record rented DVDs to VHS tapes?
              That would be handy

MOST LIKELY is a TV-Out option, which means you can output your screen to your TV instead of using a monitor. Only really useful to watch DVDs or play games. It's an S-Video connection that you have there. If your TV doesn't have an S-Video Input, then you'll need a converter cable. This should have been included with your system, it would convert from S-Video to Composite. Composite is the RCA connector. Slap that all together, go into your Display Adapters section of the control panel, and in there, you can switch from the monitor to the TV.

                Have fun!

                  I got the same card.
And I can't get it to work on my tv.
You said "go into your Display Adapters section" but I don't see that option anywhere.

The DVD decoding software (or perhaps the card hardware?) still pushes the Macrovision spoiler out of the TV-out jack, so the quick answer is, "no."

If you REALLY want to copy to the inferior VHS format , then you could probably rip the DVD (eg smartripper), which will lose the protection setting.

Go into your video card software and look for a clone option.
Don't use the dual monitor stuff..

I used to do tech support for NVidia based video cards so I know these damn cards inside out. Make sure your TV is already set to your Input, so either LINEIN or whatever setting you plugged the PC into on your TV. Once it's on there (you shouldn't have anything on the TV, just a blue screen or black screen) then you should be able to go into the properties of the display and change it.

most of the time you gotta reboot with the cable plugged in... make sure your settings are sent to CLONE
