    FUCK BestBuy.com !!!!

    I'm pissed off at that place. I went out and pre-ordered the Geforce FX video card on their site, which isn't coming out until March. It says on their site that "Your account won't be charged until the item ships". Well, I used my Visa debit card for the order and figured when March comes, I'll be sure to have the money in there.

    Well, today, I was checking on my checking account balance and it said that there was a $423 charge on my account. I thought "What the fuck is going on". Come to find out after I realized it, it was BestBuy.com that made the charge on my account, even though they said that I wouldn't be charged until the card shipped in MARCH.

    I called them up and bitched at them, seeing what was going on and they said that they didn't charge my account, they "Pre-qualified" my account, meaning that they put a hold on that money, claiming it for themselves, so in other words, they charged me for it in advance

    I don't see why the fuck they do that, it's stupid, ESPECIALLY since they don't mention it on their site. What's the sense ? If the card comes out and I don't have the funds in my account at that time, I'm out of the card, they don't lose anything, just send the card to the next guy on the list, talk about stupid.

      adult sites were pulling that same scam throught the 90s. The basic, "free membership", but we are gonna make sure your card can be billed 29.95

          Dude, thats not a scam. Companies do this all the time. They put a hold on the money. If they dont take the money after 10 days the hold is lifted automatically by your credit card company.

                          No, my point wasn't that I didn't have the money, my point was that they took the money out of my account when they weren't supposed to. If I REALLY needed that cash, it wouldn't have been there, that's my point. They should cleary state that, it's not like it's a paysite where they have to hide the fine print, they've already had the item sold, so why pull that shit.

                          I've been in this business for many years now, I definately have money laying around, I'm not the biggest, but I do have my share of cash here

                              dude, like someone else said, they didn't take the money from your account.
                              they took a pre-authorization for the amount, the same way a hotel or car rental company does.

                              the do it to make sure you have a valid card and that the funds will be available when the time comes to ship.

                              your credit card company automatically drops the pre-authorization in 7-10 days as long as the transaction is not deposited.

                              then, when they ship, they use the authorization number they got today in order to get the funds. even if you're over the limit on that day, the transaction will still go through because of the pre-authorization.

                              BestBuy hasn't received a cent yet.

                                  Hotels do the same when you check-in. It's like a preauthorisation to make sure you are good for it. I don't know if it's the same thing you are talking about though .... maybe I'm just on the wrong track entirely there
