North Korea: Attack Scenario - Possibilities

You need to be registered if you want to read the whole article, but I quoted the most important part.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...526252,00.html

" ANY opening American salvo, most military experts assume, would flatten the complex at Yongbyon. Much harder to predict would be Kim's response. Unlike Saddam Hussein's shrivelled military arsenal, North Korea possesses enough long-range firepower to wreak havoc among its neighbours.

It has 500 Scud missiles, and up to 30 Nodong ballistic missiles with a strike range of 650 miles. Both could be loaded with chemical or biological weapons.

North Korean scientists are believed to have produced stocks of anthrax, cholera and plague. According to a South Korean defence ministry document, scientists in Seoul, the nation's capital, have also identified eight chemical production plants and six storage facilities for chemical weapons such as mustard gas or nerve agents.

Another ballistic missile, the Taepodong-2, has an estimated range of more than 3,700 miles, which means it could reach Alaska or parts of Russia.

North Korea also possesses a huge conventional artillery force with 12,000 pieces dug in within range of Seoul. Military analysts have calculated that on the first day of any war, it could be hit by 500,000 shells.

If Washington strikes Yongbyon, would Kim dare strike back? He could target American bases in South Korea or even the US naval base at Yokosuka, Japan. While the Americans would deploy Aegis-class destroyers with missile interceptors, the region's worst fear is that any conflict might not be limited to a brief exchange of missiles and may result in a nuclear disaster.

"The question is, can the US deliver a clean, knockout blow that resolves the crisis?" said John Pike, one of Washington's leading military analysts. "My guess is that blowing up Korea could be very messy."

Most officials in Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo believe Kim will use his weapons to take the region to the brink of calamity, then pause to extract the political and economic concessions he needs to prop up his regime.

The trouble with brinks of calamity is that some leaders do not see them in time - particularly dictators cocooned in personality cults. Both Bush and Kim in their different ways, have taken the road to confrontation without knowing where it will end."

They for sure are not a country that we should be ready to just go bomb. They have lived in fear of the US attacked for many years, they are very dug in and now they are getting even dug in deeper...

Air to Land attacks would only slow them down not hurt them like it does in Iraq. We would be forced to send in ground troups, lots of them..And we would loose lot's of them..

The last thing China wants is a nuclear N Korea.

Pull the 37 thousand troops from S Korea and let them fend for themselves. It's clear they don't want the US there. So let them STARVE!!!

I don't think China will attack the US if we only attack NK.. BUT if we get to close to China or if China all the sudden feels we are a threat to them, they will join.. I don't think they would NK though.

So N Korea has the weapons oof mass destruction, is building more, has the capabilities to deliver them. It also has an army that will fight and equipped to do so. All this seems to be proven. A war with them would cost dear, if they are not stopped now what will it cost to stop them?

Iraq has been shown to have no WMD, no real army, little capabilities to deliver them except within their own country. A war with Iraq would be a one sided fight.

What the fuck do you have to worry about over there? If it wasn't for our cold war & eventual disruption of the U.S.S.R. you'd be handing over half your money a month to corrupt communists.

The cold war had nothing to do with the US being free from Communism within the US. Same with the fall of Russia. The end result of both did not create a seperation in our freedoms as Americans.

                      Picture this.......

Everyone on this board that is 18-24 years of age -OR- if you have been out of the military less than 4 years. If we goto war with NK you stand one hell of a chance to get drafted as this war would not be another Desert Storm.

The US gov is planning on doing something major. They have already started recalling military personal that are on 4 year silent reserve stats. The next step is the draft.

NK had not threatened us directly, they did what they have been doing for years. When BUSH said they are a bunch of evil fucks it pissed them off. Toss in some other shit and you have the start of a cold war again. This time though I don't think Bush will back down. He really things he can fight a multiable front war and win.

The United States is the only country that has won a 2 (or more) front war, and we had to use atomic power to do it. What do you think will happen "if" China get's into the war.. 3 front war?

BTW, China has nukes, has said they would use them, ect. But yet we don't invade them..

This war will be mass death on the battle field if it goes through.

This is the war that all three major religions have prophesised overtly. According to the great western prophet two thirds of the worlds population will perish but its not total annihilation. Just a mother-fucker of a war. Anyhow, I wont spoil fun the fun.... go watch the movie.

If it was not for the cold war we might have seen the communist block invade or they might have disappeared who knows. But is known is it was used as an excuse to spend more on arms, by both sides.

Bush is linked to the arms industry, he might even start a war with Poland. The US just sold them a load of fighter/bombers, he will now say the Poles are a threat.

Wars are good for the economy. We need them every few years and they happen like clockwork when the economy starts to sag like it is now. Its sad to say, but that's the reality behind it all.

EXACTLY, those bloody Koreans HATE the Americans stationed there, when I was in S Korea in 1996, a lot of the Koreans gave us bad looks and seemed to dislike us as they thought we were Americans. Without the Americans there N Korea would invade or cause some serious shit.

Nothing can be done with North Korea, you can hold embargo over him till he has Nukes and threatens to Nuke Toyko, when that happens the world will have to give into whatever damn demands he give them (within reason).

This is the primary reason that IRAQ should be invaded NOW! And not wait another 10 years till Saddam and Iran have NUKES and they are uninvadable.

What happens if we leave IRAQ where it is, it gets nukes, it reinvades Kuwait and purchases buys missle technology from N Korea. Pretty soon its got Nukes that can be fired 3000 miles.

Nothing can be done with N korea now, the US just doesn't have a chance of invading that country without 100,000's of deaths both military and civilian, but they can sure stop Saddam from getting like N Korea.

China Provided N Korea with a bunch of resourses to help make nukes, I don't think China really gives a shit.

                                    Sammy

Ohh boy are you talking about Ammagedon?? You have to be kiding me, you don't know anything about Christanity if you think IRAQ or N korea have anything to do with prophecy.

IRAQ will be a cakewalk, and the US won't touch N Korea, and once N Korea shows to the world it has Nukes and then it shows off its super long range missles again by firing one over Japan. Then the world will unlift any santions and let N korea do whatever they want. If they don't N Korea nukes South Korea. And do you really think the USA is going to send a pile of nukes at N Korea? China will i'm sure fire back there nukes and bang goes the world. The US surely knows this and won't risk a bloody thing.

China is a fool for letter a mad man so close to them get so powerful.

The only people in South Korea that hate the US presence are those dumb ass students that don't know any better,

the heart of S.Korea is Seoul and its only like 30 miles away from the north, close enough for artillery range
North Korea military doctrine said they would be able to
take over seoul in 45 minutes. but i believe with the US's
air superiority they could be put in a stale mate which could
make a war a very long war and not 100 hours

what is scarey is that there would be alot of Civilian killed
