I'd bet all my chips that Saddam cut a deal with the North Koreans for cash in exchange for these aggressive moves they
are making to spread out and distract the US's plans to attack Iraq.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see a couple F-117's sent in to bomb the facility any day now. What the fuck would the North do? You can be sure the Navy is repositioning a few of our subs with ballistic nukes into the Sea of Japan right now to blow the fuck out of them if they go nuke on SK.
Originally posted by nap i doubt they will be sending any f-17's to blow up anything seeing as how n. korea has an allie with 1 million ground troops(china).
Nothing is gonna happen to Korea. That, my friends, would mean the end of the world. As stupid as Bush may be I think he knows they are too crazy and powerful with the Chinese allies who are also insane.
I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...
My brother in law works in military intelligence for the army. He made the statement one day that if there was a third world war it would start with N. Korea. God forbid that.

In case you haven't noticed, the only thing the Chinese are crazy about anymore is money. China doesn't have the finances, the equipment or the inclination to involve itself in a true global conflict. They have plenty of manpower, but it's all driving 1950's tanks and surplus Russian jets. They can barely keep Tibet under control.
What China _does_ have is a clearly defined sense of self-interest. I seriously doubt that, at the wire, China would judge any ally important enough to destroy itself for. Their rhetoric is all well and good, but they would be completely on the losing end of any nuclear exchange (which I believe is what we are talking about). Consider this: even if China's military might were equal to that of the USA and we started firing at the same time, China could never hope to come out on top. Why? China has a land size smaller than the United states but with almost 6x as many people. Each weapon landing on their soil would cost them many times the buildings, infrastructure and lives as each of their weapons would cost us.
Please note that I am not saying it is acceptable just because I think we would win; I think it would never come to that. What would be the payoff? Show the world you can't be pushed around, but at the cost of your entire nation? Just to help the Koreans? Unlikely.
Who else would contribute to this end of the world? Russia? Please, they are too busy trying to figure out how much to charge each other for eggs. North Korea? The only thing they want to bomb is South Korea. They couldn't reach us ifthey wanted to.
I think the only thing keeping us out of Korea is that Bush wants Iraq. Simple as that. Saddam humiliated daddy and G.W. needs something to help validate his presidency. He was in office when we suffered a staggering blow and he wants to be in office when we pull of a crushing victory.
(I amend the above: we would probably pussyfoot around with Korea, anyway. Let's say that what is keeping us IN Iraq is what I stated above).

Yeah.. that's right. Wait until the situation is critical to do something.
Haha, you know the US government: why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
What's the fun in nipping a problem in the bud? That won't get any press. You have to wait until a major international crisis is looming on the horizon, THEN you act.

Does the word re-election fit in appropriately here?

China will not militarily intervene between a North Korean and US conflict. In addition there is a lot of pressure the US can place on North Korea other than the use of our military.

Well lets just say that North Korea was given material by China to help them make there nukes(cnn). And North Korea is so screwed up right now they need food and oil from the USA just to feed there starving and freezing country a few more embargo's aren't going to make much difference to a country that screwed up.

I do not think (I may be wrong) that China helped North Korea make any nuclear weapons. I think they provided certain help with the construction of nuclear power plants, but it is my understanding that China is opposed to a nulear weapons capability for North Korea. Non the less if push comes to shove China will not jepordize its MFN status with the US in defense of Korea, unless their leaders are total fools, which I think they are not. The most dangerous thing about North Korea, is their leader, whom most leaders of the world think is actually certifiably insane.

That's actually a rather low estimate. During war, you would be looking at more like 500 million ground troops.
And, letting the US take out North-Korea would be a great dishonorment to them. Considered worse than death by many.

China does not have the economy to arm 500 million ground troops with bows and arrows let alone modern weaponry. I repeat China will not allow its MFN status, or its rising economy to be destroyed in defense of a 2 bit third world nation like North Korea.
There's no country that would use a nuke against the us or europe.
But it's dangerous when countries like N Korea has nukes since they'll sell them to anyone for the right amount of $.
Nobody wants Bin Laden or some other bearded sandeater with a nuke under his arm.

I don't think it's a matter of his stupidity.. I think it's his arrogance in thinking that the U.S. is so all mighty powerful that we just can't be beat, and it's as though we just wants to try to prove it...

It all seem like a one big pie (no, that wasn't a mushroom cloud) in the sky to me!
This American is speaking for myself. The short answer is no. He cannot completely conceal his WMD's. They will be found, either before the invasion, during the invasion or after the invasion.

Hey, heres an idea...why dont we just leave North Korea alone...after all, aside from a civil war which most countries had in their past...they have never actually did anything wrong to anyone...i mean, they have never attacked anyone elses country, never bombed anyone, never tried to overthrow another country, in fact, all they ever did was live in peace and want to be left alone! Wats wrong with that?
On the other hand hand all America has ever done is bomb, kill, massacre, destroy, overthrow governments, invade other countries, etc, etc, etc.

We have a defense alliance with South Korea and will abide by it.
When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!
And that defence pact clearly states ..."that only in the event of an attack by a hostile force will the U.S., after approval by the South Korean President, defend South Korea."
South Korea is NOT, i repeat Not, being attacked by anyone, so why dont we just leave North Korea alone?
It has did nothing except live in peace and want to be left alone!
In fact if every country n the world did wat North Korea did there would be no wars and the world would be at peace!

The Korean war has not ended. There has only been a truce/a cease fire. There still exists a military no mans land. The truce has been militarily violated multiple times by North Korean military forces which involved American military deaths and ROK military deaths, so it is not entirely true that they have lived in peace. The North Koreans signed an agreement with us just a few years ago about not making nukes in exchange for certain assistance from us. The North Koreans have now admitted to violating the terms of the agreement and are persuing the violation even further.
When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!
As i said, thats was a civil war.....And yes, there are still some minor disputes by BOTH sides.
But, never, never, never, has North Korea ever attacked, bombed, interferred or tried to overthrow any other countries government. It has only ever lived in total peace with the rest of the world.
The violation of the agreement betwwen the US and North was actually committed by the US first. It had gaureenteed that it would complete water powered nuclear reactors by 2003, it at no stage even remotely met its construction criteria set down in that agreement, then stated it would by finished by 2008, then 2010, then 2012, then 2020.
As such the breaches from the US gave the North the right under the treaty to withdraw from the treaty which it did.
Israel has disobeyed thousands upon thousands of international traeties and U.N. resolutions, it sits on over 6,000 nucleur weapons, and has the worlds largest stockpile of chemical and biological weapons, it has on sold these weapons of mass destruction to the highest bidder, it has invaded its neighbours, it has bombed and killed American ships and navy, .....and represents an extreme danger to its neighbours.....lets go bomb and kill them shall we?

The US worried in the Vietnam era about a protracted ground war with China because, as one general put it, "they can birth soldiers faster than we can shoot them." I think we can forget about a Chinese invasion of the US, though. With satellite imaging and so forth, any troop ships in a war situation would be unlikely to make it halfway across the pond, and most of their troop planes could be neutralized even before they left the ground.
As has been said, China is busy getting into the business of business, and is apparently QUITE upset with N. Korea for providing this needless sideshow.
