They have given their reasons for detaining....no matter how you cut it they are here illegally or are wanted for some crime, and you do not know how "productive" these people are as you don't know them.

You are debating with the a "liberal" here. I am a strong advocate when it comes to our freedoms. But the simple fact is when you break the law you have changed game and different rules apply.
There are no civil rights violations occuring here as these are people who have violated the law and are being treated as such.

Now the day they start taking American citizens who also happen to be of the Muslim religion and that is their only offense...that's the day you'll see me taking their side.

I appreciate the civil debate. I do see your points but still see a double standard due to the ?war on terror,? and that worries me a bit. Nothing has gone overboard yet, and it's reassuring that you do have your limits as well.

They were treated just like a US citizen would be who came to a police station to pay a fine or on some other business, in good faith, and then it was discovered he had a warrant out on him. (And by "just like a US citizen, I mean that they authorities would have had a duty to subject him to the legal process.)

And, why wouldn't terrorists register? They are frequently here legally! But if they don't register, then there is a tool (their non-registration) with which to kick them out.

I don't see the problem.

And don't be foolish enough to compare this to the WWII prison camps. Those were US citizens of Japanese descent. When we have a policy of putting US citizens of Middle Eastern or Arab extraction into prison camps, then you'll have a valid comparison. And even in the (regrettable) case of our treatment of Japanese-Americans in WWII, there is no comparison with the Nazi death camps in terms of treatment of those interned there. The real crime was the waiveing of due process in WWII. If due process had been followed, almost none of the Japanese would have been held.

Most of these people have been waiting for the INS to give them an appointment so that they can become legal, but the waits are anywhere from 9 Months to 5 years to get an appointment. The only thing illegal that most of those people were doing is not registering on time.

The rule calls for those that dont have "permanent resident status" (basically anyone without a green card, like here on a visa, etc) to register. Monday was the deadline. They started arresting people on monday that came to register. Thats the "violation of immigration law" if they didnt register. Granted, some might have expired visas, or have commited crimes, but they should have been rounded up before this. Why wait and group innocent people all at once?

Why with the backlog for almost anything that the INS does, do they immediatly go forward on this?

Why focus on these people? Why not round up the thousands, if not millions of illegal Mexicans in Texas? Money. These people do shit labor that no one else wants to do.

I take it you haven't visited socal or Texas very often if not ever.

Just hang out at any of the border crossings and that's all you'll see all day long is green buses and vans transporting hundreds if not thousands of Mexican illegals daily.

hey I actually agree with profiling... it's sad but neccessary.
