    WireLess for my Laptop??

    Hey peeps,

Anyone have or ever try the Linsys wireless hub?

    http://www.linksys.com/Products/prod...id=23&prid=415

Whats the range? Does it slow down your DSL? Is it really worth it, can I really roam around my office with this thing?

    Any other suggestions?

    thx in advance,
    Ray

Forgot to mention, my laptop comes equiped with this:

    Communication
    Modem: V.90 Data/Fax Modem, Ring Wake-up Resume

LAN: 10/100 integrated Ethernet LAN, network boot

Wireless LAN: Built-n Wireless LAN (802.11b)

Bluetooth: Built-in Bluetooth? Antenna (Bluetooth? enabled through service installation of optional, internal Bluetooth Module?)

This should help with me wanting to go wirless?

I have it and for the most part I like it. Your speed doesn't drop off, but the range can vary. I have a 3 floor house and the router is in the basement. In my bedroom on the top floor it does not work at all. In the study next to it, no problem. Also, I was hoping that it would work outdoors so I could sit outside on a nice day and work from my laptop. No dice.

I guess the good thing is no one can steal my bandwidth unless they were reaching in my kitchen window.

you may be able to depending on what else is around you. I have power lines running up to the box right outside my door, so that may cause interference. Then again, the signal might just break up outdoors.

Naw, you can use his Internet maybe but if he doesn't share any files you won't get shit off of his laptop.

Just don't share out any folders on your laptop and you'll be fine.

The wireless is extremly nice, too bad you have a built in wireless card. Otherwise I would highly recommend the Cisco Wireless cards. They have the farthest range of any card out.

it is an excellent solution just set up the encyrption and you are as safe as you are on a hard wired network.

Buy a net gear one, it's by far the greatest distance.......

And if you want bullet proof encryption.... just put the base right next to your microwave, set your microwave to run forever, and you've got yourself a solution!

Well, I encounterd my first problem.

Anything out going takes forever, for example, when I hit send mail it takes about 2 minutes before it makes a connection and actually sends, dreamweaver FTP client wont connect at all(tried with several hosting accounts).

This happens whem ever in connected with the router, wireless OR hardwire, same thing.

                                          Any ideas?

Ok, Im getting somewhere. When I connect passive mode with dreamweaver it works. Now to figure out how to let my mail connect faster.

I guessing its a problem with the Linksys firewall.
