I'm in Huntington Beach, I can't believe that shit. They have no right to do that. From what I understood before, it was just the streaming media, but I guess it is all video/audio transferred over the web and cable TV. Isn't that Anti-Trust or Monopoly? I would figure so! This is total BULLSHIT!

Notice the lack of words like "judgement" and "won". It's bullshit. The only way this will ever stick is if everyone rolls over.

EVERYTHING on the web relies on some existing, low-level tehnology. So, they own streaming media? Who owns the idea of transmitting sigital signal across coaxial and fibre-optic cable? Who owns the idea of converting information into electircal signal through a modem or DSL router for transmission across said cable?

What constitutes digital video? It's bits and bytes. Those bits and bytes are nothing until decoded and turned into a picture. Who owns that technology?

But wait, even assuming that any "video" format is covered by their patent, what happens if you zip the file up? Now it is no longer usable as video without decompression from the zip format to the video format. Is it still video just because it _could_ be unzipped and turned into a viable piece of video information? If so, aren't we all technically violatng someone's copyright every time we type? After all, the word _could_ be rearranged to violate the copyright of an existing work.

It's stupid, it won't fly.

True, but THEY need a court to decide that people owe them money, as well. They are sending out letters demanding, let's face it, protection money worded to suggest tha their patents are already considered valid and that everyone owes them money.
