Did Cologroup Kill Virtual Before 30 days?

It was supposed to be the end of december.

I just tried to log in to finish moving domains, error.

Login fails since yesterday.

Just tried to call the phone number, 'we are unable to complete your call - call customer support and cuts me off'

I can care less about Cologroup and no longer use them, but I was told 30 days to move domains, its only the 13th and now I have no access to my servers or domains.

All the sites are down, and I am having one hell of a time trying to move them blindly.

I never received an official 30 day notice, and now this.

Seriously this is fucked up.

Honestly I never suffered downtime or problems like the rest of the people.

So until the final warning I had no reason to leave.

Plus, honestly, I have so many domains I hadnt gotten around to it, considering I was told I had till the End of December. I have only a few domains left to move, (tons of folders and AVS & Galleries) was moving those the past couple days, then it went down.

If you didn't already think about it - you may or may not have - try downloading your sites with Teleport Pro.

Assuming you can't get into FTP or don't have backups on your PC, using Teleport Pro should make things easier than going through the whole site in Internet Explorer. It will grab everything.

Or is this a problem just about the nameservers?

Oh, I didn't realize they are down, I thought it was an FTP access thing only.

You might be able to salvage the most essential things on archive.org, or from Google.

At archive.org search for:

http://www.yourdomain.com/*

At Google (the best chance) search for:

yourdomain.com site:yourdomain.com

Click on the "cache" link after searching and it should return html and most (95%) image.

I have all the files, its the heirarchy thats getting me.

No, its like the servers are gone.

no access, no ftp, no login, no sites loading, nothing.

everything is gone.

I have all my files and sites of course.

Its the heirarchy.

The domains I left to mvoe last are of course the ones that would have been the most work, and the older of my domains I launched on cologroup.

So that means tons of folder tons of files.

Ive used 3 computers since then, files are scattered, I prefer to login and just download everything to a new drive for the move, which is what I was doing.

Today would have been my last day there!!!

i really hope they fix this.

what a pain in the ass.... and it bothers me that they have not billed us yet which usually has happened by this time of the month.

At least he posted about a 30 day notice to be given on December 1st... but actually we never even received a notice.

Good thing we read this board. I like to think since he made a public statement, they will at least try to stick to that.

Because if not, then cologroup really has no shame or any consideration for their customers, period.

I don't have any suggestions for your present situation, but you might look into <A HREF="http://www.rsync.org/" target="_blank">rsync</A> for future moves. Instead of the download/upload bit, it does a direct transfer from one box to the other. You just have to establish it as a daemon on one, doesn't matter which, and then call from the other with the proper command. Since you're using their pipes and intervening connections, it's FAST! Also, you can preserve or change ownership as needed and keep file permissions and even symlinks, making for a perfect mirror.

My favorite part of the whole thing is that the boobs never even emailed their virtual clients (i.e. me) to let us know that they were closing our accounts. I treat my $19.95/month paysite members about a hundred times better than Cologroup treated me and I was paying much more than $19.95/month. The only reason I found out that they were cutting us off on Dec 31 (gee, is it New Year's Eve already?) is because I read GFY.

Good lord, what person in their right mind would ever get a dedicated server with them after seeing their atrocious customer service in these past few instances? Not me, lol. Luckily my "real" host treats me like gold so I'm just moving everything to them once and for all. To top it all off, I still was in the process of transferring my shit from their server to my box with my other host when they were so kind to cut us off today. Yeah, yeah I know you get what you pay for...but I thought I was paying for SOMETHING, not a big bunch of headaches. Ok thank you for letting me vent a bit.

Last night we went through the DNS records and checked who was still using our DNS. If we found people where not using our DNS anymore, we turned off FTP and deleted the DNS records. We did not delete any files.

Almost of your (Fletch) domains where pointed elsewhere, so we took your login off and took the DNS entries out. I sent you a copy of the list.

I also got 1 other email about someone who said they had not transferred all their domains, but where not able to ftp. All the other accounts are up and running that had DNS pointed to us and it will stay up through the end of the month. Aside from that, all the other accounts that where turned off obviously had moved elsewhere.

Fletch, you where always a good customer, but from what I saw, you had moved your stuff. You have the documentation I sent you, so you can see what I was looking.

I'm not trying to pile on here or anything, but Jason, you shouldn't have messed with anyones stuff until the day you said you were going to close them down. FletchXXX lost more money posting on this board and trying to get your attention than probably what he was paying in hosting ( I don't know that, it is only a guess. ) I don't do hosting, but to me I would be pissed too if I couldn't get service to something that I had been paying for, regardless of whether or not you checked. Notifications should be given man.

Anyhow, good luck cologroup with all your future plans, hopefully you guys get your stuff worked out.

Sorry about the downtime FletchXXX, I had a server go belly up on me a couple years ago with no backups. Had to start from scratch..it sucked...but it was a lesson to me. Just think, maybe something good will come out of this for ya

Just to add my two cents. I came very close to pulling the trigger and signing up with Cologroup for virtual hosting just a few short weeks ago.

After reading this GFY board, I believe I made the right decision and going with Isprime.

Sorry about all the grief you folks are having, I've had similar problems with hosts in the past.

Last night we went through the DNS records and checked who was still using our DNS. If we found people where not using our DNS anymore, we turned off FTP and deleted the DNS records. We did not delete any files.

Almost of your (Fletch) domains where pointed elsewhere, so we took your login off and took the DNS entries out. I sent you a copy of the list.

I also got 1 other email about someone who said they had not transferred all their domains, but where not able to ftp. All the other accounts are up and running that had DNS pointed to us and it will stay up through the end of the month. Aside from that, all the other accounts that where turned off obviously had moved elsewhere.

Fletch, you where always a good customer, but from what I saw, you had moved your stuff. You have the documentation I sent you, so you can see what I was looking.

I don't know what to say.
