How do you save quality photos in Photoshop?

You bet. Use Save For Web at 51%, and you'll get the same noticeable quality, usually. If you have lower amounts of colors, try using GIF instead, and specify your amount of colors (8, 16, 32, 64, etc). When using a jpg output, set your Compression Quality to Medium, and check Progressive. ICC Profile should be unchecked, Optimized On, Blur off, Matte none.

Yea I try a gif before anything I think gifs are underrated

I use medium quality, but I keep the original in highest quality on my HD.

Thanks for your replies?Should I use ImageReady to compress my photos? Does anyone have a special technique in ImageReady to compress their photos that they can tell me?

I tried some different things but I still haven?t really figured out how to get them down to 60k like some web masters out there. Can anyone else help out?

In Photoshop go to Image>Image Size.

Make sure the resolution is set to 72, you don't need anything higher than that for the web.

Set your the maximum width (for a horizontal photo) to something like 600 or 800. (Make sure the width and heigth are linked, so the photo's ratio remains the same)

Then to to File>Save As, and save as a jpeg. Make sure you set the save quality to one of the medium settings (that should be around six or seven) in the pop-up box. That quality for the web should be fine for most applications.

That should give you the file size you are looking for.

Remember, when you are sizing a photo, the file size increases exponentially. In other words, if you double the size of the photo, you are roughly quadrupling the file size. For nearly all web applications, a max photo of 600x400 at 72 dpi saved at medium quality will retain plenty of information, look good on the vast majority of displays, and be a managable size.

If you want to get a little more technical, you can set the actual sizing of the photo as an action, so all you have to do is push a button and photoshop will do the rest.
