        "A roughneck (drill deck worker) earns about US$320.00 - US$355.00 daily (or US$ 43,000 - US$ 47,500 / year). If you are promoted to a driller (3-5 years) then your salary would be US$405.00 - US$430.00 per day (or US$ 54,500 - US$ 58,000 / year)."

mmmmm maybe I stop doing this adult thingie and become a roughneck! Hell yeah! I'm signing up!

I said the job sucks and I'll try to back up my opinion.
When your shift ends you don't get to go home. Those people work and sleep on the oilrig for about 30 days at a time.
This puts terrible strain on relationships and family.

You notice $300-400/daily but only around 40-50K/year. They don't get lots of hours, and when they are working its very dangerious. Life on the rig is boring. Its cramped living space and packed with other guys. (your girlfriend is at home)
Might be ideal for gays though.
I saw a show on oilrig workers a few days ago. $300-$400 a day sounds wonderful but look into the details.
Or as they say, read the fine print.

I don't want to burst anyones bubble, just pointing out some facts. But if you think it would be fun then apply. Prove me wrong.

                  yeah for established webmasters

but its pretty hard to start out - newbies have hard times nowadays.

But you haven't come to the McDonalds employee chat board. You have come to an adult webmaster board where many make times that amount than any oilhoe

Actually the Oilrig job could be great for struggling webmasters. They could make 40-50K/year, then work online when they are not on the oilrig. The biggest problem for me would be going away all the time.
My girlfriend is in Asia for 3 weeks and I miss her alot. Having huge gaps of time go by like this really sucks.

But for a young single guy it could be worth while.

With all the fumes and bad conditions, you would have lung cancer by the time youre 40.

I personally know quite a few here that do. I'd put "work" over "talent". If a newbie worked instead of continuing to argue on wm boards maybe he could too make some money Besides if you don't have such talent wtf are you doing on this board to begin with?

I've been in industry for 5 years now and loads of my colleagues work on rigs - never wanted to work the rigs as I like my bikes, beer & babes lifestyle too much to go offshore 2weeks on/ 2 weeks off. Ya it pays well, the conditions aren't that bad and most rigs have internet connection.

Your wife/girlfriend will steal all your money and be shagging half the town when you are away.
