Well disagree. They are cheap. But not that cheap for cogent actually. They are more often down then rackshack. Sorry to hear, because Jason is a friendly guyOriginally posted by FATPad
But they're so cheap and everyone knows price is the ultimate factor in determining a host. heh.

Guys. Don't wait for the excuses, AGAIN. Move on, select another host. There are plenty of hosts that will give you a painless and great hosting experience. Excuses after excuses, I stayed and believed Cologroup for too long.
They always promised the moon and how the new equipment and staff would solve the problems..
It never solved anything.
This kind of attitude is unacceptable, it's live giving up smoking, after 72 hours when your new DNS will be propagated, you will realise how bad they were and how horrible the virtual hosting experience was. Of course, the followers and nazi cologroup fanatics will start the propaganda in this thread and claim that they never had a single problem with Cologroup and how Jason is such a great guy (of course, expect the
). But all this bullshit will not pay your bills.
Your decision guys..
I am with a new host and it simply rocks..

15 hours in a month pisses you off? I get pissed anything over 15 minutes in a month. Down time is not acceptable in ANY Internet business.Originally posted by .:Frog:.
Let me give you an idea, if a host goes down for more then 15 hours in a month I'm pissed. If it happens 2-3 times I'm gone. I don't care how nice the owner is, or how cheap the bandwidth - If the host can't keep your site up, they have failed.
I'm just baffled they still have clients, when their problems are never ending like this.

7.2 hours of downtime is about 1%
(99% uptime)
I want 100% but don't expect it, I do expect about 99% though. Like I was saying, if a host is down twice as much as they should (14-15 hours), I'd leave them if that continued 2-3 months.
I use likewhoa and downtime isn't a problem. Except for that slip last month they are pretty much up 100%Last edited by .:Frog:.; 11-20-2002, 11:24 AM.PornoPayouts

Wow, some of you have really low expectations when it comes to your hosts. I haven't been down in over a year, and the last time was for 20 minutes. The also gave me 1 week free for that 20 minutes.
Anyone who has 15 hours of downtime is loosing more money than he's saving on bandwidth.
Post some proof to that statement. I doubt very much sales wen't up. Considering I have heard the total opposite.Originally posted by Auslander
I think the people posting "Cologroup is down" work for Cologroup.
Example:
When the Tylenol / cyanide case broke in the 80's, sales of Tylenol went up 3%.
Bad pub is good pub, as long as you spell the names correctly.
Did A quick search.
"The New York Times, published an article by, Tamar Lewin, on December 24, 1982, that announced to consumers that Tylenol had, in a short period of time, gained back much of the market that it lost prior to the cyanide deaths. The article stated that at that time Tylenol had 24 percent of the market for pain relievers, not much less than the 37 percent of the market that the product held before the crisis. This article continued the media trend of publicizing Tylenol's comeback in a positive light."

That is one of the best examples of a publicity bonanza. You will find that example listed in any beginning marketing book published aftrer 84. Compared to what it cost them, J&J made out like bandits...it must have been a tough decision, though. The costs of that reacall must have been tremendousOriginally posted by Muff

OK, so obviously the virtual hosting has been shitty. No doubt. All the virtual hosting servers where put up by our tech Myles and they where fucked as you have seen them go down repeatedly for months. The virtual hosting has been more of a hassle than anything. The servers where so fucked that we could not possibly fix them, and both crashed hard in the past 2 days. BSD60 was basically fixed and has been stable, and BSD80 is toast. Good thing is the user files are still ok. We are moving the files onto a new system tonight, so it will be back online.
I have already spoken with a few customers about our plans, and we will be discontuing our current virtual hosting service at the end of the year. It is simply more of a burden on our company than anything, and I definately dont like the bad PR. It has been obvious to me that virtual hosting has also effected our service to the dedicated customers which represent 5 % of support requests and more than 95% of our companies revenue.
If you are a customer, I would suggest moving off the virtual hosting. You will receive a 30 day notice on the first. I have worked out a plan to keep some of our higher bandwidth customers and move them to a semi-dedicated, but unfortunately, many of you doing under 100 gigs will have to find another vhost.
for the customers that have been using our vhosting, sorry about this, but it has to happen. Thank you for your support and consider us for dedicated hosting in the future.Comment
