I have a handful of friends in the video game industry. Some of my friends over at EA in Orlando got laid off this past Monday. It really sucks for them because the market for that trade is already so oversaturated.
EA is trying to diversify to save it's ass, announced it's buying PlayFish the same day they did their massive layoff. The way things are though, even if the company can turn itself back around, they will just scoop fresh kids out of college and pay them dirt before they bring back anyone w/ experience.

To download pirated music and movies, whether streaming, torrents, or whatever is one thing. But I have no sympathy for people that go so far out of their way to void warranties on their RROD prone xbox's by modding the inside, then download huge game rips and rip them somehow, THEN connect to xbox live knowing their shit is modded and have a huge chance of being banned, just to play something a few days before everyone.. ...and not all 1 million accounts were pirated, MANY were cheats. And MS has no idea if someone purchased a game, got it as a gift, or found it on the side of the rode - then made a copy, mod, etc... that is not illegal - but against the rules.

Look heres how i see it, my xbox was one of the million banned and i don't really care. I'm a PC gamer and i have a PS3 also and ive never minded paying for quality games. ( brutal legend, CoD, killzone, borderlands, Mass effect, dragon age, etc.) I mostly play on PC and most if not all of my games are bought through steam.
Im not angry i got banned cause im not a retard and know modding it was wrong, but at the same time ive fixed my own xbox a few times from the red rings that Microsoft refused to help me with, had Microsoft continue billing me months after i called in to cancel, as well as confirming it online, and frankly xbox live is only as popular as the fan boys obsessed with it make it. Live was just a novelty that came with my game console. I'll probably miss it every now and then but again with world of warcraft, borderlands, and all the other games I've paid for on my pc or ps3 i could care less. My xbox is still an xbox and the only thing lacking is live, And frankly if online is all the xbox has going for it , i dont see myself going nuts about it.

Never really been a big fan of xbox though, so i don't see myself slamming my face on a wall because live was such a huge part of my life, but in the end it's like i said earlier your xbox's still work, so stop crying like microsoft fried the cpu and gpu in your consoles remotely. watch your DvD's, play your purchased or burned games, and if you really need xbox live to get your dick hard, feel free to buy another console for online only, it sonly $200 now.

lol no, but i don't see myself buying another one. The 360 is very easy to fix, you can do a little research and probably buy one from online or someone who has the 3 red rings cheap ( seen them on craigs list for 40-90 dollars) and fix it yourself. total cost for fixing an xbox 360 overheating issue = about 15 dollars ( 8 screws, 16 washer, thermal paste) and half an hour of time.Comment

I've never played anything online before... What pisses me off is I can no longer buy stuff from the marketplace (which is the only thing I used xblive for), like fallout expansion packs and rock band songs. I noticed I can't play any demos I downloaded anymore either...

Either way, I still find what MS did to be stupid business wise. It's millions in lost revenue. Not just in the monthly subscriptions but in the future purchases of live games, and it's a million more people talking trash about you.
Why not take the $80+ million a year the pirates made and invest it in better security, like many online games use. Then tell them to go stick it.

That's a horrible idea. No matter what they spend hackers will always crack it, they know that based on history with every conceivable platform/system/software ever developed. They did the right thing, ban players that were pirating games.
People who are cheap - Get the message, they won't fuck around and try to modify their consoles in order to play burned games.

I think their honest paying customers that don't cheat and pirate games will appreciate it and keep their subscriptions longer. And many of the clowns that got banned will get another console and resubscribe, those numbers are not right. Besides that it was the right thing to do, sends a message to people trying to pirate their games. Sony will follow suit. I'm not a MS fan but this was a good move.

i've got a sony 65" wega tele, it crapped out due to a design flaw and it took a class-action lawsuit against sony to get them to fix all our teles.
i've got a sony vaio laptop i paid ~$3500 for that crapped out prematurely as well, the screen, the battery, the touchpad and keyboard all went kaput.Comment

Hardcore gamers crack games, not broke bitch kids that borrow money from mom. People didn't go out and purchase a $200-$400 console, just to pay $7 a month + fees, to only play... one cracked game.. No no, these are people spending $1000's on games, they are valuable clients and customers...

This piracy was making them $84m a year. The only needed like 6 months of rebills to earn the money back from the game. Or they could have increased the monthly rates on those people just by a few dollars would have banked them far more.

Warranty didn't cover that laptop? If they did ya wrong don't buy Sony again. We aren't forced to buy broken Sony computers and then forced to pay for another upgraded to to another broken Sony Computer, year after year.
Basically you purchased the same basic computer everyone else is selling but it has a Sony tag on it.
