whovever buys it, it would be wise to keep it, gfy is a cash cow no matter what you say, costs of running the forum vs how much is made, they would be stupid not to keep it, and if it was for sale, it would be bought up quick im sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if they sell it off... Iconix is a mainstream company, I doubt they would want to be associated with a board called "go fuck yourself"...

They are buying a company that owns a network of porn sites, and one has a guy's dick tucked in a big sausage pizza... I doubt the words "Go Fuck Yourself" will offend them.
I am sure they will find a buyer easy. Not to the tune of what it sold for originally. But they will find someone who will buy it.
On the other hand buying PlayBoy means buying a "porn" company/program
As for another board, there is ONE that comes to mind.
but it will get me banned if I gave the url and YOU ARE BANNED is not something I would like to see as custom title, although Registered User is a little dull as well.

Reason: typo's
The National Enquirer/ AMI Media is buying Playboy.
You heard it here first.
Seriously?
I'm not sure that would be a good move for the Enquirer, since they come under enough fire already - it would seem far easier for their critics to organize a boycott against them if they were associated with porn. I have to assume that they would take this into consideration.
Shares of Iconix Brand Group Inc., which licenses brands like London Fog to retailers, fell after rumors surfaced that Playboy Enterprises is in talks to sell itself to the company.
Or they could just pull the plug on it due to the fact that they see it as nothing more than an old customer support board.
I would have to think that if they are going to be spending millions buying out another company, they are going to have a breakdown of each asset they are buying, what it is, and how much money it generated last year etc...
If they don't want it, they simply sell it off. Can't see that happening any other way. You just don't unplug something and throw it away when it generates over a million dollars a year mostly profit, even if you don't plan on using it yourself. Someone would buy it. These companies buying up others aren't in the business of pissing money away. Actually a lot of them buy companies to break them up and sell off the parts for profit.

i wouldn't begin to speculate, i thought you might have data. that's why i asked.
Common sense man, simple math. I don't think very many people here know exactly what everyone pays for banner spots, you hear some people have sweet deals, but some people also pay $2500 a month. If you just took an average of $1500 a month x 40 = 60K, throw in 2 site skins at 25K each, you are already well over 100K a month, which is well over 1 million a year not counting the bottom of the page banners and other shit they sell.

i hear you, and you very well may be guessing correctly.
but i don't think it is accurate to say 2 skins a month average nor 40 top banners @ $1500/month.
there's been months with no skin, only a couple months with 2 skins. also have to take into account the webmaster access shows too eh. those might even break even or maybe lose.

A few good things about that other XXX board is you can write your own custom title, bring your GFY post count with you and there are quite a few less trolls and time wasting posts

gfy is a cash cow for a company that does $60 million a year?
while i appreciate and understand the value of incremental revenue, i don't see ad sales here = cash cow for playboy/new ownership.
It is a cash cow so to speak. It requires very little resources, very little human resources as well. It does sell 35-50 big banner spots easily each month and many are on 3, 6, or 12 month contracts and range from 2k to almost 4k a month. There are also about 50+ buttons and most of those go for 300 or more a month.
70k a month in big banners
15k a month in small banners
85k a month without counting any skins.
1 million and change alone in banners.
The webmaster access shows would just be valid tax deductible expenses.
Would imagine the backyard parties would come along with it - which has to be a huge profit item.
Any buying company will have a accounting sheet and easily see the Expense & Income lines for this board. It would stand out like a sore thumb.
Then we are not even thinking about other ways that they could add money to this board. Ask around how many would pay a monthly fee for a pure certified business section and what they would pay for example.
A little birdey told me when the purchase is completed the forums will be left intact with the exception being everyones post count and register date will be reset.
I have seen other situations in mainstream where an old forum gets sold as part of a package and the new owners have no clue how to run it or the culture of the forum and it ends up getting killed off through mismanagement... hopefully the new owners see the importance of keeping the people around that understand the forum to run it
