Data shows about 1 in 6 U.S. adults — 17% — have ever invested or used cryptocurrency, while half that — 8% — have used it in the past year

This table in the link below shows Americans' outlook on owning cryptocurrency by demographic and political groups. As of the most recent data from June 2025, 14% of U.S. adults currently own cryptocurrency, with the highest ownership reported among men aged 18 to 49 at 25%

Those are pretty small numbers and it seems that Americans mostly use it to save and not as a form of daily currency. Overseas is different and where you'll find more of an acceptance to use crypto as currency rather than the US.

If I walk into a store and try to buy groceries or clothing they'll for the most part and very likely say no - and request you pay cash or other forms of payments like credit cards. The economy in North America simply isn't set up for it - and that goes online as well.

Also from a study from last year the majority of Americans aren’t confident in the safety and reliability of cryptocurrency. That is why even online Americans still get nervous using credit cards - image trying to use crypto?? Americans and Canadians as well simply aren't ready for another form of payment that to them - isn't safe and secure - likely because their banks don't advise it.

Finally - media/TV etc. even in the roast of Tom Brady if you remember - during the Nikki Glaser roast of Tom Brady, she did make jokes about his past investments in FTX and Bitcoin. The roast specifically targeted Brady's involvement with FTX, which had recently experienced a high-profile collapse, and his association with crypto in general. Some jokes even went as far as to suggest he was naïve about the nature of Bitcoin, implying he didn't understand it wasn't real money

That is exactly how North America feels about Bitcoin, crypto etc. - it simply isn't real money.
