Both, I love the Christian / Atheist debate, I just dislike the idiots who think that watching a youtube video gives them enough knowledge to argue for either side.

Yeah I was just teasing you, your teapot analogy was Bertrand's and I came across it first in Dawkin's "The God Delusion" which is a fascinating read.

I usually stay out of these conversations. I have studied world religions for many years and was indoctrinated in one for close to 20.

Anyone who even has the slightest grasp of human history and religion should KNOW that all religions are an assimilation of a prior one. Most theologians will readily admit that most of what you read in the bible is mostly allegory. Personal Stories, Fictional Parables, Historical Accounts, etc. that someone one day said, "I am going to put these things together and call it a holy book. Let's start a bigger, better religion!" Hell, some of the books in the bible where written centuries apart and after Christ died and at the time almost no one even KNEW about what eventually became the old testament.

Let us also not over look the fact that almost all of the original writing was in Sanskrit and copied over and over again. Then people started converting it from one language to the next. Even to this day there are still incorrect translations that most people are unaware of when they sit in their pew and read from the book.

The funniest part for me is that all christian holidays are pagan in origin.

Anyways, trying to have a conversation with uneducated people is like trying to teach a 5 year old on the principles of quantum physics. They just don't understand what the hell you're talking about.

Dawkins is one of my favourite writers, I love his full on approach to dealing with religions and always find it amusing when someone tries to argue the point of how he preaches his word as opposed to what he actually says. Though the argument of proving Religion is kind of stale within the present era, there's really nothing to argue past the burden of proof.

The problem with religion are the people who try to force it into the classroom, into politics, etc. If nobody speaks out against them, theirs will be the only voice that is heard.

And no, discussion does not imply forcing your opinion on others. If someone tells you that Rick Astley is the best musician in human history, is he forcing you to become a Rick Astley fan? If someone tells you Coke tastes better than Pepsi, is he forcing you to start buying Coke instead of Pepsi?

people can and have been fanatical about everything and anything. ending religion will not cure human nature and end war and suffering. people with obsessive hate about religion are mirror images of religious extremists. who cares.

I wouldnt give a shit if what they believed didnt affect me in any way. Problem is, thats not how life works.

People knocking on my door to tell me about their Mormon shit is one example. Religious fanatics killing others and causing me to have have to take off my shoes in airport security is another. You cant say that what others believe has no affect on you, because it does. And thats why you should give a shit.
