I showed the trailer to my daughter when she was 6-7yr old.. In the trailer when the kid discovered ET in the closet and they were both yelling: my daughter freaked out and started crying and I felt like a shit parent. She is now almost 18 and all the time when the ET-topic pops up she stirctly says NO, NO, NEVER. I traumatized her with this, so I don't like ET anymore.

          Different times - different kids.

ET was a classic and loved by many kids but the culture and dynamics have changed.
Amazing kids get scared when you have movies like Jurassic Park even worse.

I'm playing music etc to Rocky Horror Picture show prepping my kids for when they are 16 to 18 depending on maturity before I show the full movie. LOL

ET was a product of my time.. simpler times that's for sure. These days its all about the animation and FX, saw Turning Red a while back.. haha ET as brilliant as it was wouldn't stand a chance with today's audience

Pretty much. I love that movie as a kid. I tried to show it to my kids but they were bored. For what it's worth my son does love Goonies, Commando, and Predator.
