What do you tip at your normal eatery?

Like we go sit at the bar at Pappasitos 2-3 times per week... They're the only restaurant who doesn't hassle me about ordering off the kids menu... or smaller orders since surgery.... so we go alot... they do a badass dry fajita meat for me with good spices... and they treat us nice... so we usually do a 10-20 tip on a 10-20 bill... so 100%

But like.. when we go somewhere not so nice or where the service is just normal... we try to do 20%... sometimes more to make it even.. like $21 bill we'll round up to $30 if she was good.. so sometimes a little more...

When we go to the higher class joints... always 20%...

What do you guys tip at your favorites?

What's the biggest tip you've did?

    Me?
Hubby and I were broke.. its before I opened my own company.. and we were feeling down and out... our waitress at chilis was 8.5 months preggo.. and had worked an 11 hour shift that day, 8 months preggo.. and was 18... our bill was $23.. and we tipped her $100... ha.. we lived on ramen and mac and cheese the rest of the week.. lol but always felt good about doing that..

Normally a chili's tip is like 5-7 bucks though...

Do you ALWAYS tip? Do you make it comiserate on service?

Only time I don't tip is if they completely forget about us... or she's RUDE.. that's maybe once in my adult life...

i normally give them 10 to 15% of the total cost of the meal. In cases where i am a regular and the service is excellent i give a substantially higher tip!

Like 5-10%, but isn't it different in Europe? Like, in US you have to give bigger tips?

I always tip..just would feel really strange not doing it. 15 to 20 percent depending on the level of service. Then, I tip delivery guys too.

My dad always just laid down $2 growing up...
Then when I got married... hubby was a 20%'er...
SO I never knew exactly what was kosher...

maybe I should take it down to 10-15% to save some cash. lol

20-25% on food (like at a restaurant). I always take 20% and round up, which ends up being anywhere from 20-25%. At a bar, I tip $1 per drink - doesn't matter if it's free water or a $10 martini - usually makes the tip to come out around 25%, but as high as 50% if there are drink specials.

You rdy for the normal answer?

15% if done right. More if exceptional but few and far between now a days.

About once a year or maybe even less I dont tip due to totally foul service.

For instance. Couple years back I went with the GF and a friend to a local breakfast joint. This place is mostly inhabited by older folk. We get there and its mostly full besides a just vacated table. So we go to the table with the hostess chick. Now most of the staff is older as well, except one kid who appears by his age(id say 12) to be someone's little kin. So we sit down with crumbs on the table. The kid comes over to the table and instead of wiping from back to fron and either cupping his hand or simply brushing it off on the floor, he wipes it side to side throwing all particles and crumbs on all 3 of us sitting there. I look at him like WTF dude, get a grip on yourself. He quickly scurries away. So we let it go, nothing big. Hes fucking 12. Shit, when I was twelve I was working solo in our own cafe cooking and managing daily shit.

Anyway, were there, were hungry. We start checking the menu. Well it appeared they had just upped all their prices since my menu was 75 cents less across the borad on the whole menu than the menu that my GF had. We noticed and so jokingly when the server chick, some older perm haired ole bat, comes with pen and pad in hand to take our order I say to her, "so which one do we order from this oine is cheaper... Big smile and half laughing.

She snatches (Literally grabbed it u p quick from my hands) the menu from me and says "well certainly not the cheaper one" and immediately walks in the back with the lesser menu.

I was like wow... not only is she not joking with us, but she just grabbed shit from a paying customer and ran off. So totally unprofessional, even for a small breakfast joint.

So, we finished eating. It was good. When we left that woman hovered on us at our table when we got up. We went to pay right by the front door and she has the kid finish cleaning while she comes and stands directly behind the cashier hawk eying us. Like not hiding it one bit, literally right there staring at us. I made sure to stare back as I wrote my signature out on a tipless receipt.

I wasnt even expecting to get my food 75 cents cheaper. I was simply making a joke and pointing it out that they had missed a menu. Well, she handled it wrong and did not get a tip. They should also slap some common sense into the 12 year old. Though I dont blame him. Kids can be dumb, and they should make sure hes not doing shit like that.

Needless to say I havent been back. A shame since they had decent BnG...

I tip 15% rounded up to the nearest $0.50. At a bar, I tip two dollars for the first drink and one dollar each drink after.

If I like the service and more then not I do I always give 20%+ on food. Drinks I average $1-$2 per bar order.

I tip based on timeframe of what's going on. How long have I taken up the server's table and how busy are they?

                                    It's variable.

10% is an insult to any waiter. If you only tip 10% you should not go out to eat.

Well correction, in the US there are times when it is required by law to tip. If the menu states that a certain percentage is automatically added to your total or to your total when a party is greater than X number of people - it all falls under a contractual agreement and you as a customer are bound by it.

PS I fucking hate that mandatory tip shit. When I see that they rarely get more. However we would normally tip more than what was expected if we were a large party. Also strongly feel that percentage tips on alcohol is also bullshit and I refuse to do it. I tip a set amount for alcohol drinks and wine.

Now my typical tip rate is 15% despite that some are now insisting that 20% is the new normal. I already live in a fucking state where they are guaranteed at least minimum wage and can not be garnished like many eastern states. (You back east people, or those east of the Rockies for the most part have different rules) I also first round off the bill to the closest dollar, usually upward before I add the percentage.

I also feel it is acceptable to lower the amount some under set circumstances. Mostly waitress observed ones. Like seeing favoritism towards other tables and not keeping our drinks refilled or if I never see them again after they leave my food. When this happens I often will fill in what I was going to tip, cross that out with an initial and then put a lower amount so that they can see the difference when they get the card slip back.
Now if it is piss poor shit service and I know it was the waitress (not a late order, etc) then it is 1 penny per person at the table.

Again fuck that BS if your in a western state.

Tipping is just that, showing appreciation for above average performance. Only time it is different is if you live in one of the fucked up states where they screw the staff on wages and even then I get pissy about it. Why in the fuck should I subsidize the fucking places employees. Fucking pay them more.

10-15% is normal, but I would only tip that low if I had bad service. 25% on a full meal is about right for me, and I rarely tip less than $3 even if I only had a drink or appetizer.

30%ish IF the service is good, otherwise they get the bare minimum, whatever I have for ones. At the bar(drinks are cheap here) I usually give them a buck on a $4 drink, on $2 beer night I still give them a buck if I didn't have to wait, which usually isn't an issue.

depends on the price of the food and service.

most chain restaurants are about 20% max unless the service is OUTSTANDING

if its a diner or small place and the food is cheap (like 2 people can eat for $14) then ill tip like $4 or $5 bucks

one thing i always look out for is when i buy wine or drinks NOT to tip on the price of a bottle of wine. I have to admit that ive had to bring this to the attention of a few waitresses who thought they were getting a $30 tip because we bought 2 bottles of wine
