    My lovely credit card...

When I was a senior in high school I wanted another credit card besides my bank issued card. So I find this card online, Next Card, looks pretty decent so I joined. Started out at $1k, after a couple months they raised it to $1.4k. Sweet deal.

About 2 years ago, Next Card goes out of business and sells all their accounts to another company called My Merrick. My new card gets issued, doesn't really phase me because I never really used the card.

Couple months ago I needed to take some last minute trips to see family, friends, etc. So I figured what the hell, I'll just charge everything. Charged. Probably about $800, not that big of a deal. So right now I'm sitting here looking through my statements and about fell over laughing.

    Balance for August: $733
    Bill paid in August: $30
    New balance: $730

I had $27 in standard fees! No late fees, nothing! They're charging me $10 a month just to have the damn thing, and then 29% annually!

Time to dump My Merrick. I want to pay it off over the next 3-4 months, should I transfer my balance to a new card with a lower APR? Or should I stick with this card and work it off?

Any recommendations on who to switch over to? I'm looking at Chase and American Express, wouldn't mind a Blue card. Know any special introductory rates?

I already have Discover, Wells Fargo, and another bank issued business card.

I highly recommend MBNA .. somebody stole my SSN from me (employer sent me a direct deposit stub, and I had moved .. somebody in my complex had the same name as me .. so the mail guy took the liberty of giving her my info) Anyways .. She applied to MBNA and Capital One. Capital One issued this girl a credit card, where MBNA called me and said that somebody was trying to apply but the birthday and Mother's maiden name didnt match up. So .. if it wasn't for MBNA, I would've never found out.

On that note, I will never get a card from Capital One, I don't trust them, eventhough they took care of the problem quickly, I'm still not interested.

Exactly. I have good credit for a reason.

Plus, why not have a credit card? If you use them properly, they're like loans. You can easily use them to build your business. Ever hear of a credit line? This time I wasn't paying attention, it's not that big of a deal. I still made my payments, the credit bureaus love that...

                                            29%!?!? Geezus.

And I was pissed when my "fixed" rates went up 1% this month on some cards I don't even use.

I have been getting some better fixed interest rates lately, like 0% for a year and then 8.9% fixed after that, which isn't bad.

They still make a killing at that rate though.

I charged $30k on my VISA last year and paid off $30k. They hate me for paying it off, I'm sure. Every time I sent them a payment, they'd send me a letter asking why I was leaving them for another credit card company (assuming I was transferring balances, I guess). I'm done messing with credit now except in an emergency though. It doesn't make any sense to get in debt like that.
