    Any GFY Gulf War vets here?

    and any of you having serious memory problems latley?

    I can't remember jack anymore.... I forgot that we had dinner just a few hours ago...

    I never worried about it before, but it's starting to get to the point that I can't ignore it anymore...

              The reason I ask is that depression can manifest itself in such a way. Do a search for mild cognitive impairment on Google.

                                                                              The way it cut up the story and its timing is amazing not just because of its novelty but also how it related to the lead's medical condition. The ending was classic.

                                                                                      A vet of the gulf here. Some memory problems, but I don't think anything out of the norm for a 44 year old. The only remenants I have from the war is a badly fucked up back. Booze can affect your memory after years of over use/abuse. I don't know if this applies to you or not.

                                                                                                          The sad part was during that week, I was having dinner with a couple of friends of mine back in college. All they talked about was how they would flee to Canada if there ever was a draft. One guy's a doctor now in Southern California and the other guy a manager at a big company. I know war is jacked up and I have nothing but respect for the people who fought in that conflict and for enlisted servicepeople in general. I am not Joe Patriot or anything but I would answer the draft instead of taking off.

                                                                                                          I lost a little bit of respect for my two buddies that night. Although I appreciated their honesty, I felt a bit repulsed by the hypocrisy of their actions--feeding off the fruits of this country [a quality state subsidized college education and a stable legal and economic framework where they can succeed] while shunning the price that comes with those freedoms and opportunities. I guess most wars are like that--Rich Man's war, Poor Man's fight.

                                                                                                                                          he told me that they gave him so many injections that he wasn't sick for years and years after (no colds, flu, etc)

                                                                                                                                          they give similar shots to people in the airline industry

                                                                                                                                                                                  Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. I'm sure you've heard of it, but you should take a close look and take it seriously. Not the same as depression. It takes different forms and memory problems sound like a classic example. Take it seriously and seek some treatment. Memory problems are probably only a fraction of the shit your dealing with--panic reactions, "overreactions", nightmares, "hating God", obsessive thoughts and "horror show" movies playing in the head are all pretty common with PTSD. It is misery and can lead to suicide/homicide. Survival guilt and the guilt of having to follow fucked-up orders don't just go away with discharge, six-packs or bongloads. Do something, bro. Call the VA or see a therapist--hopefully a therapist who was a vet. I'm not a vet, but I'm talking about this shit from experience.

                                                                                                                                                                                  An example of how serious and weird this shit can get is the case of some cambodian women who witnessed some killing-fields massacres when they were girls during the 70s. They had a PTSD called "hysterical blindness", meaning they were literally blind afterwards even though their eyes weren't physically damaged. There's also examples of Holocaust survivors experiencing paralysis even though they were physically intact. Weird but true. There's usually a dramatic symptom or self-destructive shit that arises before people realize that they need help and medical attention.
