1 TB external hard drive recommendations?

Any recommendations on 1 TB or larger external hard drives?

I've got an Iomega 1tb drive that I like. I think you can get them pretty cheap, too.

Anything on TigerDirect.com that's cheap enough, or NewEgg.com. Don't shop anywhere else

Will any of these work on a linux box? We dumped Windows years ago.

yup I just bought one of those in the 1tb to back up stuff.. I've had a 1tb Western digital for like 3 years and it is still running but I thought it best to have my important stuff backed up on several places rather than just trust a old drive that is so cluttered..

I like this more than I do the WD drive cause it seems faster and for sure is way more quiet

                My recommendation: don't do it.
I accidentally knocked one of those 1TB Western Digital "Book" drives over.
The drive died soon afterwards. I got it replaced, but it's still not worth it.
The drive now is spending its new life inside my desktop computer.

                          Time Capsule!

Apart from the edgy Apple hardware, the 1TB (+) time capsule will do a special magic when you use any intel mac. It also will work as a router, providing a 'n velocity wireless signal in the same device.

I have both (TC and western digital), and all I can say is, they can't compare.

Do NOT get a WD MyBook, or whatever the fuck they call that thing. Mine never connected half the time, and its the only drive I've ever had that stopped working....and I've abused a lot of hard drives.

Don't get one that has multiple drives inside. It just increases your chance of failure. Better to have smaller single drive units. Just my opinion.

Get an ICYBOX or similar enclosure, and buy your own drives.

I would only ever use Seagate or WD.

I would never use a MyBook though.

Or if you have the cash, get a drobo.
